Drugs and alcohol/addiction specialist recs needed
Looking for recs of people/organizations who know things about addiction. Where to go, how to approach people, plans of attack for helping people, etc. Any suggestions would be helpful. If you'd rather keep it off-nest, please email me at laurabeau at gmail dot com if you don't know my regular email address.
Re: Drugs and alcohol/addiction specialist recs needed
i emailed my mom for the name of an internventionist we have used in the past for these issues. i will post it here and/or fb you as soon as she responds.
for more immediate resources:
mirmont treatment center: http://www.mainlinehealth.org/mirmont
bowling green brandywine: http://www.bowlinggreenbrandywine.com/
i have experience with people in treatment at both of these facilities, with varying levels of success. the offices there should have info that you need and would likely be willing to talk to you and give advice over the phone. you can also try to call al-anon. it is a great resource and is under utilized imo.
unfortunately, i have more experience with this than i would like. if you need anything, you know my email.
Thanks Erin, and I assume you mean a private facebook message...right? ;-) Person may or may not be on facebook.
This is really helpful, we have no idea.
i'm an idiot- obviously a message and not a wall post.
or.... that could be one way to be like duuuuude you've got issues.
i poked around on the bowling green website and they do a free confidential assessment for yourself or another person. it might be a good place to start.
First and foremost, I would encourage the person to see a physician. It's important to have medical help when someone is potentially attempting to detox from drugs or booze.
Here's some AA stuff:

Al-anon is a great resource for family members of the addict. Here's their website: http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/home .
I will say AA is for the addict who is ready to ask for help and try to get clean. Al-anon is to help the family members cope with the addiction and stop enabling the addict. It's not to help them heal the addict.
Unfortunately I had a crash course in this with a boyfriend in what seems now like another life. I'm sorry you even have to ask about this. It's awful.
This.
This.
Al-anon is for families of an alcoholic or addict. Go to an "open" al-anon or AA meeting. "Open" meetings are for those that are not in recovery (like a family member) or who have the desire to stop drinking/using, but have not yet stopped.
