canker sore?

I have 2 really bad ulcers (canker sores) in my mouth. I have had them for about a week. Anyone have any remedys or meds that they know work?

I have tried the milk of magnesia. I bought some orajel and some anbesol I have been using. I have tried the salt water and the peroxide. I read online about something called a canker cover? I am going to walgreens tonight to see if they have it.

Re: canker sore?

  • I usually just let mine go away on their own. I've used a product that you paint on it so it doesn't get more irritated, and that kinda works.
  • My usual go-to is time and a really really really salty salt and water rinse.  Cankers suck, sorry 'bout that.

  • Try mixing mylanta and benadryl about 1/2 and 1/2. That's what my dentist told me to use. Just make sure not to swallow it if you can, I imagine it wouldn't be too fun.

  • I've used those canker covers and they're actually not bad. I don't recommend using them during the day though. Put it on before you go to bed and when you get up they'll feel a lot better.

I believe you can dab baking soda on them, too, but I've never tried it. Those things suck though, I feel for you.

  • A dab of baking soda always works wonders for me. Just give it a minute and then rinse (it's not exactly tasty). My mom always used to tell me to eat ginseng too, if you believe in Chinese medicine. I've been prone to them all my life so I know your pain, hope they heal soon!

As a pharmacist, I second the canker covers.  The cells in your mouth regenerate really quickly and you just need to give it time to heal.  Put these on while you're at home and at bedtime to protect the area and let it heal.  Or you can get triamcinolone paste from your doctor or dentist, same idea, just with a steroid and in paste form.
