I know this complaint is long past its due date, but I need to get it off my chest because I was just doing my budget for this week and noticed my grocery spend.
Anyone who does their grocery shopping in Giant has probably noticed those HUGE posters talking about how 400 points gets you a free frozen turkey up to 20 lbs. Well, I had no problem earning that. In fact, since the promotion started I not only got my free turkey, but I earned about 525 points on top of that. Enough for another turkey no?
No.
One turkey per cardholder. Which, in theory, I guess I understand because they... don't want us running the market on turkeys? The reason this bothers me is because my sister is doing her Thanksgiving too this year so we both needed birds. She has no Giants near her (apparently main line Ardmore is a bit of a food desert unless you want to shop at Whole Foods) and I offered her my second turkey. I mean, come on people... I've spent almost $1000 dollars at your chain in 2 months. You can't spring for $40 worth of turkeys for me? Lame.
Re: The Giant free turkey promotion - a complaint
i bet you could call to headquarters and complain.
but i blame all those crazy coupon hoarding people and things like this. someone took unfair advantage of the system at some point and you get screwed.
I don't get complaining about free stuff.
Do you not shop at Giant regularly and were you only shopping there to get free turkeys?
Because if it's where you would have been food shopping anyway... meh.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I do shop there regularly, and yeah I would have spent the money there anyway. I definitely see your point which is why I didn't make a fuss out of it when they told me only one per customer. The thing that bothered me, I guess, was seeing how much I spend there and I am in no way a gourmet cook. Cost of living is so high in this area and you know they're making a massive margin. I just wish I'd been able to help my sister out since I "earned" two birds.
sorry, OP, I don't feel your pain or that of your sister. rather, I am a little balled up that you even thought of complaining.
That's a really good idea. Were you able to do it through Giant? I'm going to remember this for next year and see if they'll let me do that, because I will inevitably earn two again.
I just contacted our local food shelter and asked if I could give them my receipt/paper thing from Giant. They said yes.
I also saw on the news today that some radio station does a turkey drive, 100 something and a guy named John? Not a station I listen to so not sure which it is. But you could drop off the turkey and/or certificate all day today.
You've complained twice on here about not get free samples. Just saying.
Personally I'm afraid of the free turkeys. You have no idea where they come from or how long they have been frozen. I'd rather support local farms and actually pay good money for a turkey that I know was humanely raised.
I'd rather give my free turkey to a family who might not have otherwise.
I was in Giant tonight too and got my 400 pts - the cashier mentioned it to me and said if I didn't need the Turkey I could tell them I wanted to donate it and they were collecting them to give to a local shelter. A few people did this in addition to myself, I thought that was nice.
OP - the turkey is literally a $7 turkey, no need to get upset over it. Now you know for next year that if you really care THAT much about it, once you hit 400 pts, start shopping on your sisters card.
Also you may want to double check at your local store, because the woman behind me in line was saying she was about to hit her second set of 400 pts and wanted to donate it.. and the cashier said she could. Maybe you can't claim your second turkey, but you can still donate?
