Socorro, Spanish Nesties!
How do you get your social security card/number/health card after getting married and getting your marriage residency?
I'm heading to extranjer?a on Monday and if I could take care of everything in one day I would be one happy woman. I do realize that this is probably impossible. The big question is can I get the SSN with the resguardo?
Re: Socorro, Spanish Nesties!
Hmm..If you working, you should already have a SSN and it doesnt change when you get married. Dont you already have a health card? The health card only changes when you add people to it. For example, when I was a student, I had to go to the SS office to get them to put my name on my DH's "account"
Extranjer?a doesnt deal with SSN or health cards. At least in Madrid, I had to go to two separate offices.
I dont know if you can get a SSN with a resguardo but you can with a student visa.
I've never been "working." The government takes advantage of its own loopholes for the auxiliares program and I was technically (and still am with the new program I'm doing) a student. So, to the best of my knowledge, I have no SSN.
Because I've always been a student, I've never had rights to public health - until now. I'll have DH call the health center tomorrow to see what we need to do - I had forgotten I can go on his account!
Extranjer?a here doesn't do health or SSN here either - I was just trying to check three major items off the list on Monday since I'm taking a day off teaching to get it done! Here's hoping for a productive day!
You would know if you had a SSN because you have to ask for one. You dont need a job or anything. You can just get it with your student card. I think you need to show your empradonamiento and something else and then they give you a paper with the number.
Are you really working now? If you are paying SS, then you should get your own card,
I'm "really working" but I'm still considered a student (ohhhh loopholes). The strange thing, however, is that we're paying 18% tax - or that's what they told us - on the grant we earn.
I'll head to the social security office on Monday if I can.
Thank you
I wouldn't have spammed the IN board with this, but all the other expat boards are for British expats in Spain!
Good Luck!! It wasnt that difficult to get the residence card.
