Thanksgiving Traditions

Do you have any family traditions you carry on?

Re: Thanksgiving Traditions

  • Growing up my dad always made a big breakfast while us kids watched the parade. (I plan to beg my dad for chocolate chip pancakes tomorrow!)

With the exception of a few year that it wasn't possible - our Christmas tree always went up the day after Thanksgiving.

  • We always picked out our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and although I haven't done it yet, I want to carry that on when we have kids.

    Now jumping domestically.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

  • We always watch the parade together. When I was young we use to put our tree up the night before thanksgiving and decorate it while watching the parade. Now we go to my moms and watch the parade and decorate her tree before going to my grandmothers for lunch.

  • My family didn't have any traditions. With my parents' divorce I alternated years with them so nothing was really stable.

My own tradition that I've started is getting the tree on Thanksgiving night. And watching the parade while I cook. I'm not cooking this year, but I'm still going to watch the parade. And when John gets off work we're going to go get our tree :-)

  • We don't really have any traditions, but it always works out better for us to set up for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. Helps that it's a long weekend. We have also started to host Thanksgiving dinner, because we just happen to like our cooking better than any of my ILs. My family does dinner, but it's up in the mountains, and I'm not a fan of driving in the snow. I really like to be home for the holidays now, too, so I don't think we'll ever stop doing it here now.

  • My family likes to put up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving--I'd like to start doing that. We put up a tree, but a bit too late for my taste. :) My family's also always been random with what Thanksgiving meal is--it's not always turkey and all the sides. We've definitely carried done that since we both like to mix it up from year to year.

  • I like to watch the Macy's parade.  The only things that ever change on the menu are the green veggie and dessert.
