Thoughts on this baby name?
Moe.
Discuss....
p.s. the name is for a boy, and is not short for anything. And no, I'm not pregnant.
Re: Thoughts on this baby name?
my photography blog
Only if there are brothers named Curly and Larry. ;-)
Well - I am not sure if you are serious or not - but it's an ok name, I guess (just NMS). My cat is named Mo after my grandfather, but he was nick-named that from a play on his last name, it was not his first name.

Nope, here in Houston.
A little strange and definitely not my style.
Then again, people can grow into names like that.
Yeah, I can't get rid of the Simpson's Moe.
My one SIL's bf's name is Moe...short for Moses.
OK, just checking.
The family is all a-titter over my new nephew's name. Most of the adults really, really dislike the name (except my dad who doesn't like it but does think it's funny). My mother was so put-off she was embarrassed to tell any of her friends. She wondered if maybe it was generational: i.e. her generation doesn't like it but maybe ours does, which is why I'm asking here. I haven't watched the Simpsons so I didn't know about that Moe; just the ones from the Stooges. And now I can't think of him growing up with a chil-bowl haircut.
Who knows, with the Three Stooges movie coming out next year, maybe they're ahead of the trend curve on this one. Hahah.
Yes, my nephew is named Modi, he mainly goes by "Mo".
My Niece (sister to Mo) is Named Helmi ("Hell-Me"). When my brother and xSIL named her, we gave them SO.MUCH.GRIEF. I will fully admit it, we were mean it was wrong. She is 6 now, and I can't imagine her named anything else.
When he and Mo's mom decided on Modi, we kept our mouths shut. Did I love it, no, but its not like they named him Poop or Dumbo or something. A year later, he is definitely Mo. I can't imagine anything different.
I'd encourage your mom to realize that no matter what you name your child, someone will not like it, some other child will make fun of it (kids are mean), etc. She should keep her mouth shut and be excited to have another grandchild. His name is hardly anything to be upset about.
I agree. This is her grandchild and she doesn't have to love it, but openly mocking it seems so wrong to me.
I'm not a fan, but I would never say anything about it. Baby names are so personal and after having Collin and some people in our family not liking it I will never again openly say I don't like a name someone gives their child.
When we told FIL his name after he was born he said, "Well I'm going to call him by his middle name." I thought that was so rude and will never get over it.
The names my SIL gave my niece and nephew are NMS, but I couldn't imagine them being named anything else now.
