another dog anal gland question

Now my other dog, who's had his anal glands expressed before, is showing all the tell tale signs of needing it done again. Where can I get this done by a vet without being charged an arm and a leg? Our normal vet charges $55 just to be seen, then another $15 for the glands. Is there anywhere I can just pay to have them expressed?

As PP....I know a few people who just do it themselves....saves $$. But I know a couple of their dogs have problems too if they don't do it often.

I attempted this the first time he had this issue, but realized I had no clue what I was doing? I'd rather pay someone to stick their fingers up his butt!

Haha, yup, I would too! I wonder if groomers would just allow you to take him in and that would be all you would have to pay for? I know some groomers do this so may be worth a try to call around?

Can you request an appt with a tech rather than the vet. We do this with just about every visit and pick that option when available to avoid the extra cost. Might be worth checking on.

I think Petsmart does this. Otherwise you can go to Harrison St. Vet on 72nd & Harrison they are very reasonable!

Check with Pawz Grooming Service on 80thish and Maple. I think they have ala carte prices on most everything (and if they don't a lot of times its included in the groom which if you sign-up for emails you can get for 25 dollars or so).

One of our dogs has this problem as well. The vet told us once to feed her green beans once a week and it will help clean them out better. So we do this and it has extended how long we go between taking her to get cleaned out. Our vet only charges us $15 (Walnut Creek Veterinary on 96th and highway 370). But I know that is quite far for you. We also take them to dogtopia to get done, and they did it for about the same price.
