So who braved the Black Friday sales?

I have to admit I'm curious about it, in the same way I'm curious about running of the brides. I don't really have the patience to deal with it, though.

So who braved it, how was it, and what deals did you get?

Re: So who braved the Black Friday sales?

  • I did.  I left about 10:45 and went to TRU. Waited in line for about 30 minutes.  They were letting about 15 people in at a time.  Grabbed what I wanted, paid (no line to pay), and went to Kohls which opened at midnight.  Waited in line there for about 20 minutes for them to open and got in, bought what was on my list, and got out of there.  Then headed to Walmart.  That place was INSANE!!  The lines were huge, but I got 2 Blue-ray/DVD players for $49 each.  They were all out of a game I wanted to get DD. I waited to check out for about 45 minutes.  Then headed to Target, walked right in, got my few items there, and walked right up to the empty check out and paid. I was home by 3am.

We did buy a few things online at Kohls and TRU before I went out as they were honoring the sale prices online.  There were a few things that were in store only that I had to get at the actual stores.  We should be pretty much done now for DD.  We just need to by for our parents, which we'll probably just give gift cards along with the ornaments DD made for them.

  • We went to the Target in Columbia Heights. It was an amazingly pleasant experience. We got in line at about 8:45 and were pretty close to the front (30ish people in front of us?). They had hired a bunch of performers to entertain the lines - stilt walkers, fire throwers, etc. At about 11:45 they handed out tickets for the TVs - they had a ton of them. So we got the TV we wanted for my parents, no problem, and also a blu-ray player and two kindles. Very smooth and easy, and we were in bed by 1 a.m.

Now trying to do the rest of our shopping online - last year we were done on Black Friday and I'd like to say the same this year. :)

  • I woke up just before 9 and walked across the street to Barnes&Noble to pick up the nook simple ($20 off). definitely not crazy - only a handful a people in the store, but they said they had been busier than expected.
  • My mom and I went to old town early and got some good clothing deals at some of the boutiques. Plus, I found a cool pair of earrings for me. Everyone was so nice in the stores, plus we got coffee :-) Dh went to hh Gregg and got us a new microwave and tv. He said it was not that crazy at 8am.

  • I tried to go to TRU in Kingstowne last night at 9pm but the line was wrapped around the building.

Today, DH, the kids, and I left at 6:30am and got to Tysons at 7am. It was really pleasant there at that hour, although none of us bought much. I just exchanged a jacket at TCP and bought a shirt for DS and tights for DD. We also had their feet measured at Stride Rite. The best part was that there were no other kids in the play area so our LOs got to run/crawl/toddle freely.

We got home around 9:30am, and then while the babies were napping, I went to Carters, Target, and Payless. Carters had the best deals. When they got up, we went to Staples and Old Navy, but didn't get anything.

Overall, a decent day. We may hit up TRU again tomorrow and maybe Kohls.

  • I went to Michael's to have a picture custome framed (super deal, btw... 60% + additional 15% off!) and buy some Christmas decorations.  Got a couple bags full for $50, and the picture with a VERY NICE frame and double matting was $150, so I did well.

  • I did!  We were at Target in Springfield- it was a mess- thousands of people when we got there at 10:45pm, so we waited in line til 12:15ish to get in, then got the toys we were looking for and got the heck out.

Then we went to Best Buy and that was even worse- not even close to worth it.

Then to Ulta, which had most of the Muppet polishes in stock, so I got one, then to Macy's.

Macy's was actually the best deals of the night- new undergarments plus 2 full outfits (club room shirts and D4 dockers) for $100 for H.

  • Went to NY&CO at 7 30am, no lines or madness. Went back out at 3pm to the mall again, Target and Costco...no craziness to be seen
  • I went to Michaels and Kohls.  Michaels had great deals!  I was able to get a ton of scrapbooking stuff for cheap!  Kohls was good also.  They were giving extra Kohls cash.  I was able to get my brothers whole family done :-).
