What Are Your Christmas Traditions?

I saw this on another board just thought I would share. What are some traditions you want to instill in your kids or future kids for those of us who don't have any kids.

*****Growing up we always put up our Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. My parents were raised to do this with their families as well. ON Christmas eve everyone would come over and we would play Xmas music and decorate the tree together. It's something I still do to this day on Christmas eve with my parents. When DH and I start a family I plan on doing the same thing with my kids.

#2 I have fond memories of baking sugar cookies with my mom and sister. My Mom would always let us chose our cookie cookies and we got to choose which sprinkles we wanted to decorate our sugar cookies with.

 # 3 I remember sitting at the top of the stairs waiting for my parents to get up so we could go downstairs to see what we got. They would go down and we would here them oh wow wait till they see what they got! We would go so psyched. Then they would ok come down. Before we came down they would always snap a pic of us lol. Its funny to go back and look at these pics from over the diff years.

Re: What Are Your Christmas Traditions?

  • Omg... you wait all the way until Christmas Eve? I wouldn't put a tree up if it was only gonna be up for a week! Too much work. Stick out tongue

We don't really have too many Christmas traditions yet, but we're going to start some with Landon...

  • It's not a real tree lol. We keep it up longer too.
  • We dont really have many either...will probably try to start some new ones this year with Cullen.

  • The only real tradition we have is getting a new ornament each year. They always represent something special/"big" that happened to us that year, or our favorite something. Last year Taryn got a pair of Mickey and Minnie ornaments; this year the girls got "Big Sister" and "Little Sister" ornaments.

  • my dad always makes spritz and sugar cookies, and we'd always pick the tree out together as a family. That doesn't happen anymore now I live so far away. On Christmas morning everyone would have to wait at the top of the stairs (typically in PJ's) until my dad went down and started the coffee etc. Once he had everything ready he would turn on our Shaw's classic Christmas CD (or the local classical music station before CDs - they may have had a tape of it too, I don't know) and we'd come down. We also did the picture on the stairs thing, had our stockings, ate breakfast, and then attacked the presents. Part of breakfast was always singing Happy Birthday to Jesus. I'd like to continue that tradition, and DH thinks I'm weird. The tradition he wants continued?? To have sweet rolls for breakfast....

  • We don't really have any Christmas traditions. The kids get to open their gifts from DH and I every Christmas Eve b/c DH has had to work the last 2 Christmas mornings. Then they open their gifts from Santa Christmas morning while we FaceTime with DH at work. We'll probably continue this even the years that DH doesn't have work.
