No advice on the hotel, but I think Thurs-Sun should be good, because it gives you 3 nights to go out, and 3 days to recuperate, lol. Last time I went, we did Fri-Sun, and it was about perfect as well.

  • i never go for more than 3 nights, but i've never been big on drinking or partying. h and i always just go for the buffets and sight seeing. if you want to go clubbing, etc, i can see how an extra day could be handy.

as for hotel, i think the best for price/location/quality would be flamingo. it's located in the center of the strip, so close to as much as possible. very close to planet hollywood and caesars, which both have good malls. it's a little bit dingey, but not gross or anything. i do not feel the need to wear flip flops in the bathroom, which is important ;)

if you want half a step up, i'd go with harrahs. more expensive, cleaner, and still central, but still very affordable.

another step up would be paris. beautiful hotel, still central, right next to planet hollywood (which has the best buffet for the price, imo), and still won't cost an arm and a leg, but will be a good amount more than flamingo.

and since vegas buffets are my fave, i will just note that the wynn, bellagio, and aria have the best buffets i've been to (planet hollywood is just very inexpensive compared to them, great quality *for the price*)

if u have any other vegas q's, i think i go there way too much and can help. i think karimychel or mudpuddle (obvs) is there more often than me though ;)

  • What sort of hotel budget?

We've done longer trips and shorter trips and both have been tons of fun.

If you're not spending a ton, I'd totally stay at the Mirage again. It's a fantastic location and I like the set up better than so many Vegas hotels. You can get out of the hotel relatively easily (as opposed to wandering through casino-land for 15 hours trying to find your way out!) and I've always liked the amenities. Good pool, good restaurants, etc.

TI is cheaper, same location and a tram to the Mirage. We had a good time there, too.

MGM was meh - too big. Just too big.

We stayed at Encore at the Wynn last time and LOVED it. I would stay there again, for sure.

I do not like Caesars, at all.

If you want to really go budget on the hotel, try the Monte Carlo. Cheap, great location, really good pool for the price and it has a crazy cult following! People love that place as a cheap Vegas option.

  • I'm not sure what your budget it, but I love the Cosmopolitan - newly opened, great location, nice rooms... I think it's more central than the Wynn (though I like the Wynn as well).  People also love The Palazzo at the Venetian but my friends rented a suite there for March Madness last year and we went by it and I was underwhelmed.  I've also heard great things about Aria but haven't stayed there yet.

If you're looking for something more budget friendly, I'd agree that the Flamingo is great for the money - location is prime.  Also, I'd do Thurs afternoon / evening to Sunday mid-day (maybe a noon departure)... 3 nights isn't too much but I usually find that by Sunday, I want to get out of Vegas.  Like immediately.  Not at 5 PM.

  • I've only stayed at two hotels in Vegas, the Bellagio (twice) and Planet Hollywood (used to be the Aladdin) and I liked both a lot though the rooms at the Bellagio are much nicer in quality. It's also really lovely having a "lake" front room at the Bellagio and watching the fountain show from there.

I've heard the Wynn is really nice and I've seen photos of Aria from when some people I knew went and it looks seriously gorgeous.

When I've gone to Vegas, we've generally stayed a maximum of 3 nights. I like drinking, but not that much and neither of us gamble all that much. Nor do we do high end shopping. Mostly, we walk the strip, watch some shows, and have some good food. We do a very little bit of gambling (like two or three games of blackjack tops) and drinking with our gambling.

Depends on what you want to do though. I think I've seen most of the shows I want to see down in Vegas already so we have no real plans to go back unless it's with a large group of people.

  • We've stayed at the Wynn - loved it, but be prepared to do some walking because it is not central strip!

We've also stayed at the Palazzo (got a great deal on priceline) and it was also very nice.  All of their rooms are suites, which we thought was a little wasteful since we aren't really in the room much, but it was still very nice.

I went for a girl's weekend for a mini-bachelorette party that my friends threw for me and we stayed at Monte Carlo.  Definitely not as nice as the Wynn/Palazzo, but honestly, I was still very impressed.  awesome pools too.

I mostly go to Vegas for the pools though, so take my advice with a grain of salt - I don't gamble :)

  • Best totally depends on what you want to get out of the trip.

I've stayed at Four Seasons, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NY NY, The Venetian, Treasure Island and Palace Station. I've been in and hung out in rooms at Ceasarss, Belagio and Paris.

Time wise -  a long weekend in Vegas is plenty. Thurs-Sun is a pretty typical trip for us.

  • we are going there for a wedding. on a saturday. h is in the wedding and they will probably have a rehearsal dinner or something on fri... anyway, so it isn't really for drinking/carrying on. i'm hoping to be ktfu when i go.. :) so really a decent place to stay at a decent price. thank you for all your help!

  • Where's the wedding? On the strip at a hotel? Off the strip?

I'll recommend a hotel based on the wedding local, because given the time of year you're not going to want to walk the entire length of the strip if your KTFU.

off strip.. but the bride told us that they will likely stay on strip too unless the hotel comps them a room. but the other nights they won't. i'll take a cab.. lol.

  • yes, I'm the girl of a million questions :)

Other than the wedding, what do you plan to do? Time of year? Are you looking for a nicer room or pools, or food or atmosphere or shopping?

Realistically when it comes to Vegas hotel rooms and rates all depend on what's going on.

  • thats ok, i like questions. autumn/fall, sight see and spend time with wedding people. i'd like a decent room but since i've never been, i don't know what is more important. i wanna see stuff, take it all in. i am crossing my fingers i won't be able to drink, but i still wanna have fun.

BabyFruit Ticker BabyFetus Ticker we're having twins!
  • will it be sunny then?
BabyFruit Ticker BabyFetus Ticker we're having twins!
  • Autumn/Fall should still be great. I was there there Nov. 17-20 this year and wore capri's during the day. Night was fine, if you had a shrug or sweater, but coats weren't needed.

If the wedding party plans to stay on the strip, I'd wait and see where they decide, because I imagine you'll want to be close.

Otherwise, I'd choose a hotel based on where/what you want to see, whether it be shows, shopping or amazing pools.
