Kindle Users: Question

Since I just got a kindle last night, I have been totally playing with it....

But now that I actually have time to read for pleasure (instead of academically), I have no idea what to read.

Any book recommendations?

Has anyone read any of the free kindle books and has recommendations for those?

Re: Kindle Users: Question

  • I have a Nook, not a kindle...but I tend to download lots of the free books whenver I can.  I figure that they're free, so why not?  If I start one and don't like it, I can just delete it.

What kinds of books do you tend to like?

Here's a link to my Goodreads "read" shelf.  I'd definitely recommend anything I've rated with 5 or 4 stars, and some of the 3-star books are probably worth a read, too.  http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/1340204-carrie?shelf=read

I download a ton of the free ones and at least give them a shot! Most recently I have read the Millennium Series (almost done) and "The Help", I just downloaded the Hunger Games books based on recommendations from other and it is only ~ $4 so I thought it was worth a shot!

  •  Have two kindles right now (keyboard and fire) and quite a few books including ones I bought. I finally figured out how to loan them out, so if I have any that you'd like you "borrow" let me know. Therickson mentioned the Hunger Games trilogy and I have all 3 if you want to start there.

  • I I definitely recommend The Hunger Games. Have you seen the movie trailer? It comes out in March. I can definitely send them I just need your email address. You can also download a sample from the kindle store to see of you like it before you buy. I also have the first 9 Sookie Stackhouse books as well.

I was just going to ask if anyone had the sookie stackhouse books!

I just spent hours creating a goodreads profile too, and I have 100 books in my "to read" shelf. haha.

I would love for you to send me those books! my email is just my screenname at gmail. You rock! :)

I also discovered that the King County library also has e-reader books available. I have been sitting on the computer looking for books all day. Haha. This thing is addicting!

You should create a goodreads page and then we can all share what we have and what we want to read. I have a whole bunch of books in my to read section. It would be cool if we could all look through each others and see what each other has and if they have something we want.

I love the Hunger Games, but just so you know, unless they changed the rules, you can only lend a book you own once ever. (I was super disappointed when I found this out.)

It'd be better to just borrow the Hunger Games from Amazon's lending library (for example). (If yo have Amazon Prime.)

Don't forget that you can also borrow from SPL now through overdrive. :)

I finished the Wicked Lovely series last week from SPL and enjoyed it (even if it's Youth Fiction). http://www.spl.org/library-collection/digital-books-and-media

  • Ok kinmir, I just sent the 9 Sookie Stackhouse books that I have. You'll need to open the "kindle" file on your computer and manually put each file on that and load them on but it's fairly simple. Hope you enjoy your kindle!

I agree that we should all start using good reads and exchange books. I'm fine with paying for them but if we can borrow them why not save money, especially around the holidays?

  • Unbroken and The Tiger's Wife were both very good. For free books, I download a lot of the classics.

There is also this site that tells about the current free books.
