Kaiser

Anyone have Kaiser (federal plan if it makes a difference) and know how easy it is to get a referral out to a specialist?  We are currently under BCBS federal and are seeing a RE at Shady Grove Fertility, just wondering if we will have to jump through any hoops to continue with our RE.  Also do you need new authorization for every treatment cycle?

Re: Kaiser

  • I have Kaiser Federal and went to Shady Grove.  We just needed to wait the prescribed amount of time (one year of TTC under 35 - six months over 35) and then Kaiser did some tests and gave us a referral to Shady Grove.  But since you are already a Shady Grove patient, I would think you would just need an OB to authorize you.

I am almost certain we had approval for 6 treatment cycles and then we would have had to seek re-authorization - but we didn't get to that point.

I do know an OB it is easier to get a referral out of - pm me if you want the info.

    Best of luck to you!

  • I don't have Kaiser but I do work in a doctors office and can tell you that now Kaiser patients must go to a Kaiser facility or a capitated provider to have labs drawn - and I know that having the ability to have labs drawn in office is a big plus for patients.
  • Thanks for the info ladies.
