Come in if you have a Dyson

Do you love it?  It says they're "multi-surface"...I'm assuming that means you can use them on laminate, do you have any experience with this?  (We have carpet and tile now, but laminate flooring is in the near future).

I'd really like one, but just can't decide if it's worth the $$ (holy hell, they're expensive!) so I haven't put it on my list for DH yet....

Re: Come in if you have a Dyson

  • I bought the animal a long time ago (in 2005, I think).  It was pricey then - I can't imagine how much they are now.  I love my Dyson - most vacuums beat the dirt and such back into the carpet whereas it actually sucks it up which is way gross.  We have mostly hardwood and it is fantastic on the hardwood as well as the carpet.

Just be prepared to be completely grossed out after you use it the first time....

  • I really like ours. After going through a vacuum every 2 years or so, this one has actually lasted 5+ years.

We use ours on carpet, tile, and wood (with the brush turned off on the last two.) After using it each time, DH or I remark that it's amazing that I'm not bald. It picks up a disgusting amount of my hair.

If it works well on wood and tile, I imagine that it'd work well on laminate as well.

  • I have one and I use it on tile and carpet both (I didn't know I should turn the brush off, what?). I think it does a great job. I've had it about four years and also have the DustBuster version as well.

I think someone had them for really good deals this weekend, much cheaper than I paid for them.

This is from my crazy Googling, and I think it applies to wood more than tile. I think the idea is that IF something weird and scratchy is stuck in the brushes and IF it spins just right, it could scratch the wood (or tile, maybe?) I turn it off to assuage my own crazy anxieties :) Plus, apparently when you only vacuum every few months, a lot more stuff gets stuck in the rollers. Embarrassed

  • Worth every penny. We've had ours about six years and it grosses me out everytime I vacumn with how much it picks up. I don't remember what model we have. It has the purple on it. But we use the floor attachments on the tile and it works really well.
  • It is so worth the money.  I've received one from my grandma as a wedding shower gift--so I've had that thing for 7 years now and it's still going strong.  H recently gave it a good cleaning and it's seriously still perfect.  I'm hopefully going to get the Animal for Christmas because I am going to put my old Dyson upstairs.  And Lily needs a little extra power--her short hair gets embedded in my rug.  Nasty.  GET ONE!

  • I too love my Dyson.  I got it 3 years ago I think and generally use it 3 times a day and it is still perfect!  I use it on my tile and my carpet and its fine.  I don't ever sweep, just vacuum.  LOVE IT!

after every meal.  not the whole house though, just the kitchen.  The kids make a mess eating plus, I don't want G eating their food that falls on the floor Smile

  • Thanks for the responses, now I *really* want one! Big Smile  We definitely need something that can combat the dog hair and my hair balls....I just don't know if I can bring myself to spend that much money on a vacuum/myself.
Off to continue the Dyson search....
