Weird work schedule

I am so frustrated with my work schedule!! I never know when i'm going to work till the friday before the sunday week starts. So that's two days and most of the time my boss forgets and it doesn't show up till saturday night!!! Does anyone know how of a more reliable line of work that is part time but with a regular schedule!!

I wish I could just quit too but can't. It was suppose to be a seasonal job that after two weeks my boss said she is keeping me after the holidays. I don't know why though because i can't ever seem to do anything right!!

I need to get out of here but don't want to look bad on a resume or get stuck in another sucky schedule or confusing line of work.

BTW this job is merchandising at a clothing store. Basicly, hang up new clothes in ways that are pretty. ( I went to techincal college for welding, I really don't think I have a talent for this which is why i was happy before when it was...cough...SEASONAL)

 Any advise?

Re: Weird work schedule

  • I'd talk to your manager about possibly getting the schedule earlier, or ask about getting a set schedule.  I'd also look for a new job asap. It's not unusual to have short term jobs, especially since it's out of your field and seasonal.

  • You choose what you want to put on your resume, so you don't have to put down that job. As for future applications, put it down and list it as seasonal. That's what you were hired for, just because your boss wants to change that doesn't mean you have to go along with her plans.
  • My advice for anyone trying to look for a new job is to stay with your current position until you find new work. Most people would rather be employed at a crappy job than not at all...

Second, I have had multiple part time jobs that were accommodating with a school schedule so I had set schedules even though they were part time gigs. I have confidence you'll be able to find something. What do you want to do? Welding? or "anything but clothing"?

My husband used to work for a company that didn't give him his schedule until Friday, like you, and I just could not stand it!

  • When I worked retail, my boss was really good about accommodating my class schedule.  Each quarter/semester I'd schedule classes on two specific days each week, and tell my boss that I wasn't available those days.  As long as I had open availability the other 5 days each week she was good about following that.  And of course, I couldn't be unavailable on weekends.

Could you try something like that?  Just say that you're not available Mondays and Wednesdays (or something) and then that way you know that you have two specific days each week to get your errands done and hang out with friends.
