refrigerator box?

Does anyone know a good way to get a refrigerator box?  I placed an ad on craigslist and have asked the 2 nearest home improvement stores that sell appliances and they both told me they can't give away boxes.  Is there another way I can find one?  TIA!

Re: refrigerator box?

  • Maybe Freecycle?  I don't have any other ideas.
  • Have you tried actual appliance stores?  Our local appliance store is pretty good about telling people when there might be one so that you can happen to park near the dumpster at the right time to get one (or sometimes more than one).
  • Ha! I'm getting a new fridge Monday and am too excited about the box.

What are your plans for the box?

Judging by the OP's sig pic, I think it's going to be an awesome play house.  When we got a new washer and dryer, N loved the boxes.  I cut a door and window in one and she played in it forever until I got tired of it taking up so much space in the living room.

  • Try other stores that sell appliances - Best Buy, HH Gregg, Sears,... maybe even try going in person and asking.

I made my son a cardboard train out of a refrigerator box, stove box, and another smaller box I had on hand for his 2nd birthday party. The appliance manager at Lowes was extremely helpful to me, but it definitely took me calling a few places. Good luck. :)

    Jealous! :)

I am planning on making her a "walk-in closet" for her dress up clothes.  I will put a few stick on hooks on the inside to hang up dresses, put a few "shelves" for accessories and then find a way to put shoes in too.  Then I plan on cutting out the front to create a "door" which I will cover with a curtain so she can go in, put something on and come out and show off.  She's really into dress up at daycare right now so I think this would be a big hit.  I don't want to spend much on it though because a) money is tight and b) I'm not sure if this will be as successful in real life as it is in my head lol.  But I'm hopeful!  I'll swing by a few more stores maybe this week.
