Does Modge Podge need to be sealed?

I am about to start my first decoupage project and the directions on the modge podge say it needs to be sealed, but later on they say it is a sealer.  I am using it to affix scrapbook paper to wood blocks to make a Christmas countdown calendar, if that makes a difference in your answer.

Thanks!

Re: Does Modge Podge need to be sealed?

  • No, it doesn't need to be sealed, but it might stay slightly "tacky" for a while so keep that in mind.

  • I have sealed the last two projects I did with modge podge so that it doesn't stick to other things.  It really finishes the project
  • I apply acrylic sealer.

  • I've always used Mod Podge as a sealer without problems.

  • Maybe it means that if you use it to glue the paper to the wood (for instance), then you should also seal the whole thing after it dries?

I used Mod Podge to glue paper to wood wall letters, let it dry, then used it again as the top coat.  I've never used another type of sealer.
