Big girl bed...

I need some advice. Gianna's used to sleep  in her crib, wake up in the middle of the night and sleep with us. I love that she sleeps with us, we all snuggle and it's great. However, now she goes to bed in our bed and we just come to bed when we are tired. (She cries forever if she's in her crib) It makes 'our time' a little difficult...if ya know what I mean.

We were both talking about it, and it just seems like she just like to sleep in a bed, rather than a crib. Naps she still does fine in her crib.

WDYT? Like I said, I'm not ready to 'kick her out' of our bed all together. But I'd love if she'd sleep in her own bed for atleast a bit!

We could take the side off her crib to see how she does, but I think she just wants to be in a bed. I was thinking about even letting her sleep upstairs in the extra bed (until we went to bed), just to see how she does.  Any suggestions?! I hate to do a bunch of trial/error and mess her up even more!

Re: Big girl bed...

  • I have a toddler bed frame you can use if you'd like. It didn't work for J because he preferred our spare room bed, so that's where he sleeps. I think it was more about being warm and comfy in a little bigger bed where he snuggles with blankets...if we happen to have company he'll sleep on a twin mattress on the floor, he does ok there, but will typically end up in our bed at some point during the night.
  • Christian went right from the crib to a full sized bed in his own room and he has done great, except that he gets out constantly.  Can't blame him for trying to make the most out of his new freedom though.

I don't know if it matters if you want to start her upstairs or not.  Technically it is part of her routine to be upstairs right now.  I'm sure eventually you could move her back downstairs.

Kids might be more easy going than we think.  Sometimes when we are doing work in his room, he naps in ours just fine, etc. etc.

  • I'm paranoid about not being close, so I don't think I'd put her upstairs.

What if you got an air mattress? like a full sized one, and put it on the floor in her room, that way she's in her room, and in a 'bigger' bed, yet, it's closer to the ground. El slept on one this past weekend and did GREAT! If she didn't do so well in her crib now, I'd change her out, but I don't feel like taking the crib down right now.
