Homemade Drain Cleaner

Hi!

What could I use (homemade mix preferred) to clean my drains? They are not clogged, I just want to clean them every few months for maintenance purposes.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Re: Homemade Drain Cleaner

  • PPs solution seems great! (And I'll definitely have to try it) but I've also read about putting orange peels down the garbage disposal because the citrus is a natural cleaner (and it probably smells better than vinegar)

I do this at least once a month, and any time I use any citrus otherwise! Works great!

  • Be careful if you have clay pipes.  Anything acidic will eat away at them and can cause more harm than good.  Pouring salt down your drain followed by a cup or 2 of boiling water and 2 lemon or orange halves in the garbage disposal works well to clean and freshen your drain.  You can also use vinegar and baking soda followed by boiling water.
