Help with moving timeline

My husband is already in Ga. We (me & 2 kids) are moving at the end of this school year. We will need to schedule for the house to be moved, TRICARE transferred (not near a base, closest is Jacksonville 3 hrs away), finding a house, job, schools, etc. Am I already late in my planning? I think I'm overwhelmed already... HELP!

Re: Help with moving timeline

  • You're fine!  I used this checklist last time I moved. http://www.military.com/money/content/pcs-dity-move/pcs-checklists.html
    Twin boys due 7/25/12
  • I made my move in 6 days.  Got approved for our house in a Friday, DH went into DMO on Monday, I drove across the country on Thursday.

  • Where in GA are you moving?
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • We had some problems with scheduling our move this past summer because it was a popular time to move. But in the end our scheduled pick up date was only 2 weeks later than I wanted, so it wasn't a huge deal. We put it the paperwork the first week of June and they were able to get us in for end of July. I think you are ahead of the ball if you are starting now. :)

I found the move.mil timeline (Plan My Move) to be awesome and very helpful. Although I started Job hunting a lot earlier and still haven't found one yet.

  • End of school year is may/june, right?  I've never gotten more than 30 days notice to move, and that's for international moves each time, so I think you're perfectly fine.  All I'd worry about now is maybe school registration and job hutning.

Tricare is like a 10 minute process.  Don't stress.

  • Thanks for all the help and advice. I am beginning my job search, I have several career options with my degree so it will be interesting. If i dont get a job, we are planning & preparing for me to stay at home. I am hoping it goes smooth... Thanks again.
