Where to look for a Health Education (related) job?

I have a degree in Physical Education. I taught for 3 years and realized it was not for me at all. I am curious if anyone has a job in health education/public health educators that are not nurses? They all seem to require a nursing degree. I have looked on my county and city sites for jobs but bc of the economy in my area, there are no jobs in the field. Any suggestions about businesses I could start or work for? I have thought about getting a personal training certificate or a lifestyle management certification as well.

Thanks!

Re: Where to look for a Health Education (related) job?

  • Local (county or city) health departments and non-profit health related agencies are good places to look. Is there a particular area that you are interested in? Do you know if you are eligible to become a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)? Are you familiar with SOPHE or APHA? They are great ways to network.

I worked as a Health Educator for close to 9 years, but am now working as an epidemiologist. Almost all of my experience has been at county health departments, but the economy has been really hard on the profession of public health - jobs are hard to come by.
