Xmas Tree

Who has their Christmas tree up already? Did your kids help you hang ornaments?

I will probably put up my small fake tree on Dec 1st. DH is out of town, so I thought it would be nice for the apartment to be all clean and decorated when he gets back. He doesn't really care about putting up the tree, so he won't miss being a part of it. Also, I have a pretty new poinsetta table cloth I have been very excited to put out :)

We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

Re: Xmas Tree

  • Ours is up...we put it up last night.  The cat didn't help put the ornaments ON, but I'm sure she'll be happy to help pull them OFF.  Beast.

  • Since we'll be away for 2 weeks over Christmas/New Year's, we decided not to get a tree this year. It's sad, but my parents will have one when we're there, so it's ok. But DH had an old fake mini-tree, it's like 2 feet tall, and we put that up yesterday. It's tiny, but still festive and certainly better than nothing! :-)

  • I put our tree up last night...just the tree and have been decorating throughout the day. DH is on a work trip right now, so I want it to be finished when he gets home. The pup has no idea what ornaments are except they look like something she might want to play with - no help, at all :)

  • Waaay too early for us!!

My DH will usually only let me put it up on the 15th December (a family tradition - it's his mum's birthday) but last year he let me do it the weekend before that (I was heavily pregnant so couldn't do it on my own!).  I convinced him that there would only be crappy trees left if we didn't do it then...

This year I would think that we do it around the 10th/11th though I would say it will be a smaller tree than last year.  Last year I think it was 8ft tall!!! I can't imagine how N will react to it.  She's near to crawling so it could be a disaster area with her pulling things off it...

Though I did buy 1 decoration yesterday - a bauble with N's name on it!! Couldn't resist...

LOL, when ours was a kitten H had to drag the christmas tree into the spare toilet at night so she wouldn't destroy it completely. The next year we got a fake and put it on a table so it was harder to reach.

  • I'm going to put up our small fake tree next week. I'd like to get a real tree too, but we may be away at Christmas for a week. Once I know if we will be gone on Xmas day or not I'll decide.

I put up some Christmas window stickers a couple of weeks ago for M. H thought I was nuts doing it so early. I just love Christmas and couldn't resist getting something Christmassy (sp) at the store.

  • We don't put ours up until 19th December, as my son's birthday is 18th December so I kind of feel it is important to keep his borthday and Christmas seperate. Also- this way he has less time to wreck it and I don't have to worry about it being in the way during his birthday party.

  • We usually decorate the weekend after thanksgiving (DH's family tradition) but we started a little bit early. We both have super busy week's right now up through Christmas and wanted to have a bit of a relaxing night to ourselves with it. We always have our decorations up way too long anyway, we both love Christmas / Chanukah!

We have a fake tree now but always had a real tree in the states. I miss it!

  • When we were in the states we always out it up the Friday after Thanksgiving, but for one reason or another that hasn't worked out since we have been here. We put ours up last night and the flat looks so much more festive!

My birthday is next weekend.  All my life I've loved that everything is decorated & its the holiday season, it was kind of like everyone was celebrating my birthday :-). In my family we often decorated the tree on my birthday, so it was another family celebration.  It only sucked when people would combine my birthday present with my Christmas present - then I felt like I was short-changed having a December birthday.

As for our Christmas tree this year, it is being delivered on Friday & we'll decorate it this weekend. We are doing it a bit earlier this year b/c we're leaving for the US on the 17th.  Not much time to enjoy it, but I couldn't not have a tree.
