Re: H&F Challenge Check-in
Goals: Stick to Half Marathon training plan. Keep portions under control. I would like to lose 3-5 more pounds, but I hear it's difficult to lose weight while training for a half or full marathon. I'd be fine with just maintaining weight.
Did you stick to your plan from last week? Mostly. I didn't do the workouts on the days I had planned, but I got them all in except the crosstraining.
How was your Thanksgiving H&F-wise? Did you eat way too much? I had 4 thanksgiving meals. But I feel like I didn't overeat at any of them. I couldn't resist all the desserts though.
AWs from the past week? I ran 8 miles!!!
Struggles or problems from the past week? I tripped and fell on my 8 mile run haha. It was completely embarrassing. Luckily, only one car was driving by during my fall. And luckily, I only have a scrape on my knee and a couple bruises.
H&F plan for this week? M: 3 mile run. T: Legs/back strength training. W: Speedwork. Th: Arms/shoulders strength training. F: Crosstrain. Sa: 9 mile run. Su: Rest.
Do you have a favorite H&F related item (a healthy snack you love, some type of fitness gadget like a watch or fitness app for you phone, a favorite shoe to workout in, etc)? I love my Spi Belt. It holds my phone, car key, inhaler, etc. while I'm running.

I went to bootcamp this morning.
I want to die.
Goals: Keep running, and work on increasing speed little by little.
Did you stick to your plan from last week? I didn't do one of my runs, but I did do a cardio workout instead.
How was your Thanksgiving H&F-wise? Did you eat way too much? I had two meals, and while I didn't eat way too much, it was still a lot. I love turkey.
AWs from the past week? I had a fabulous run on Monday. You guys will giggle, but I'm on week 5, so I did the 8-5-8 run. I felt wonderful after that.
Struggles or problems from the past week?
I forced myself to run with my coworkers Weds. even after I met one of my friends for a later Mexican lunch. I learned that 3 hours isn't enough to digest enchiladas. I didn't barf or anything, but man, did I have that horrible heavy feeling. H&F plan for this week? Runs Monday, Weds, and Sat. Pilates to work on my core on Tues and Thurs. Do you have a favorite H&F related item (a healthy snack you love, some type of fitness gadget like a watch or fitness app for you phone, a favorite shoe to workout in, etc)? The C25K app for my phone, and Brooks shoes.Puppy - where'd you go? I did a boot camp in Edmond about a year ago and it was awesome.
- - -
Goals: I think I'm going to cancel my gym membership. Going to try either C25K or just committing to jog/walk 30 minutes/day. Also need to get started on the exercise plan I found. At this point, my goal is just to get some sort of routine in place before the end of the year.
Do you have a favorite H&F related item (a healthy snack you love, some type of fitness gadget like a watch or fitness app for you phone, a favorite shoe to workout in, etc)? I used to log food on livestrong.com quite a bit, and I really liked it for counting calories. I'm thinking about taking that back up again.
Goals: finish stage 4 of NROLFW
Did you stick to your plan from last week? yep!
How was your Thanksgiving H&F-wise? Did you eat way too much? We went on a hiking trip, so this was the most active Thanksgiving I've ever had! I didn't overeat- in fact I probably didn't eat enough for all the hiking we did. A small breakfast and only a few snacks for lunch 2 days in a row isn't enough for all the calories we burned. Then by dinner time I was too tired to want to eat much.
AWs from the past week? I had a great time hiking and I wasn't sore at all, thanks to all the preparation work I did. H was hobbling like an old man in the morning after each previous day's hike.
Struggles or problems from the past week? I think I need to eat more. I'm not getting nearly as much protein as is recommended for the lifting program I'm doing.
H&F plan for this week? the "usual"- lift Thurs and Sat, swim Fri and Sun, plus I'm planning on taking another pole dance class- the last one was fun!
Do you have a favorite H&F related item (a healthy snack you love, some type of fitness gadget like a watch or fitness app for you phone, a favorite shoe to workout in, etc)? an Excel spreadsheet I found online to track my lifting workouts. I love the sense of completion I get when I enter data in it or look back to see how much stonger I am than when I started.
Goals: Finish Stage 2 of NROLFW, run some.
Did you stick to your plan from last week? I got my lifting workouts in, although not on the days I planned. I didn't run at all.
How was your Thanksgiving H&F-wise? Did you eat way too much? I did eat way too much, but it was just one meal on T-day and one meal of leftovers Friday. I ate so many carbs and I realized why I don't like to eat that way every day. I was so blah and tired.
AWs from the past week? I deadlifted 85 pounds and squatted 160. I also started wearing weightlifting gloves to protect my precious, soft (LOL) hands from callouses and stuff.
Struggles or problems from the past week? The usual, finding time to do everything. I think I will still make my NROLFW Stage 2 goal, but I might end up doing the last two workouts of that stage in 2011.
H&F plan for this week? I lifted this morning. Plan on lifting Wednesday morning (will be my last full Stage 1 workout). I'll do the Stage 1 special workouts sometime over the rest of the week.
Do you have a favorite H&F related item (a healthy snack you love, some type of fitness gadget like a watch or fitness app for you phone, a favorite shoe to workout in, etc)? The Kindle app on my phone has been really helpful, because I dont' have to drag the paper copy of NROLFW in the gym with me. I also use LoseIt to track calories. Honestly, water is probably my favorite/most helpful H&F and F&B item.
That's an awesome squat amount! By the end of stage 1, I was only able to get up to 95#, but only for one set.
I've given up on preventing the calluses. For me, deadlifts are the main cause.
Thanks! I have thunder thighs. When I was lifting in HS, I was able to squat something like 250.
Get you some gloves! Academy has a large selection at various price points. They really do help with the callouses, and make it easier to grip the weights when doing lunges, step-ups, etc.
