Re: Black Friday Shopping?
Kate's Recipe Box || Relatively Bookish
I had plans to go out at midnight to old navy (and get there when the store was already opened so I didn have to wait in line) and get the $15 jeans. We drew names yesterday for our family christmas and I got my Nephew. Sinces he's older he's officially in the adult pool and he needs jeans like whoa! I was also going to go to the Children's Place to see what we could score for Lucas/Landon/Robson's Christmas photo but my feet and major heartburn had other plans. I know it was because we ate twice yesterday (once at my sister's and another time at my il's) but it still sucked. On a good note...we were playing "Loteria" (the mexican bingo game) and I was killing everyone and kept winning. lol We play for quarters so I scored some major hospital vending machine change. E was very happy.
I'm up this morning and ready to fight the crowd..if there's one left. Hopefully they're all sleeping.
We went at 10 to Wal-Mart last night. We picked up a few things, but nothing crazy. I did get a new blender for us! And I got my nephew an MP3 player.
My mom and I went to Bath & Body Works and I scored $90 worth of stuff for $35! I'm really excited for my best friend's Christmas presents! I got her a pumpkin spice latte candle and these comfy socks that are rolled up in the shape of a cupcake. So cute and totally her! I can't wait to give them to her!
Day after Thanksgiving. Lots of retailers have really big sales - but they start at ridiculous times. Most people don't have to work because they get Thanksgiving and Friday off. The people in retail are not so lucky.
A lot of people do have to work, but it's a common day for people to take off. School and government buildings are closed, but most other businesses are open. It's basically the big day to get all of the holiday shopping done because there are the "best" deals.
Have you noticed all the places in Canada that are doing Black Friday all of a sudden? I wish I lived closer to the city so I could go shopping!! Oh well.. furniture shopping tonight!
Banks are still open unfortunately. *grumbles*
A few of us were talking about this at work today. Canadian companies are offering deals on Black Friday that aren't as crazy as American sales but still good nonetheless to discourage shoppers from crossing the border to shop. Better for economy they're thinking.
I'd say they better start doing a better job, because even shopping in AZ last month with no sales was like clearance shopping up here. I brought back an entire suitcase full of clothes for the 3 of us (and Christmas gifts). I had a hay day down there lol! I'm pretty sure my new favorite store is JC Penny
I am an operations supervisor at Best Buy. I was there, but not to shop. Our CEO decided that in an effort to drive sales and stay competitive, we would open at midnight. So I had to work 15 hours starting at 3AM. Because they cut out labor force by forcing so many people to quit earlier this year because of changes to availability requirements, we were enormously understaffed, everyone had to work 14-15 hours, starting at 9PM on Thanksgiving, to cover the extended hours. I am a little bitter about BF this year. Sorry. :-/
I did snag a video game for Ben though from Amazon's BF sale. I paid $30, it was normally $60. It will arrive on Tuesday. I am excited that he will be excited.
This is awful and I think you have every reason to be bitter. I think was pretty crappy for all of the 4/5am stores to go to midnight this year. I used to work at Target and I was good with 5am, but I started there knowing I would have Thanksgiving and Christmas off. Having to go in on Thanksgiving would have made me really mad.
I didn't go out until 10 Sat. morning.
I did great! Went out to Kohls around 8:30 and it wasn't crowded at all- got everything I needed and more. That $15 kohls cash for every $50 was awesome!
I hit the mall after that and it was the same thing- not crowded no lines, etc. We go about the same time every year, and this was by far the best shopping experience. I'm convinced it wasn't that bad bc of the crazy's went out between midnight and early AM lol.
I love black friday shopping!
We went out around 8:30, got some pretty good deals at Janie and Jack and Carter's for Anders and 2.0. We swung by Walmart around 11 am and it was pretty dead (they claimed it was "insane" at midnight) and most of their doorbusters were still available-picked up a Wii for my dad to entertn him post knee replacement in Feb.
Our "big" haul was at Sur la Table this morning. We picked up 3 nespresso machines (one for us, and one for each set of parents) for the price of two, which is a pretty good deal.
Also hit up the online sales at Lands' End Canvas, Hanky Panky, and soap.com for a few things.
we went to target! I have never waited in line before but it was a lot of fun. Mainly because it wasn't too cold. it was 33 and no wind.
Dan, my dad, Eli and I got in line at 7:55pm! (they opened at midnight). at 8:30 I brought Eli home and left him with my mom then joined the guys again at 9:30. They figure there were about 1500 people in line when they opened at midnight and there are only 7000 in our town. We were numbers 15, 16, and 17 in line. Both Dan and my dad scored 46" tv's for under $300. That is why we were there and we were out of the store before the line was all in it. then I went back on friday afternoon and shopped in a dead store for other stuff.
I got up at 6 and when to JoAnn Fabrics-they were having a sale on flannel, at a 1.50 a yard. I got about 600 bucks worth of flannel for around 130. I was pretty excited.
