DH is a big kid when it comes to Christmas gifts. His Christmases as a kid all sucked, so he actually generally hates Christmas - but he does like to open gifts on Christmas morning - that's the part he likes.
However, for some unknown reason in the last two weeks he has bought himself three things that I had in mind to buy for him (or had given other folks the idea to buy for him) and two of them were fairly big tickets items. He pretty much has spent what we usually spend on each other at Christmas.
I only jokingly "fussed" at him for this, but I actually am kind at a loss - what do I do in the future? Have a moratorium on buying anything over like $15 for the two months leading to Christmas? I now have one gift I'm going to give him on Christmas morning, instead of our usually 2-3. (waving to Hey_Jellisy who is helping me obtain said one gift!)
Re: DH keeps ruining my Xmas gift ideas - grrrr
I bought myself a few things and gave them to DH to wrap and give to me for Christmas. He never knows what to get so this way I get what I want.
We do this as well.
Sounds familiar.
They were hockey gloves.
I even returned home from a craft show with a $3 snowman that was "confiscated" when I walked in the door. Since we do Hanukkah and Christmas, gift ideas are at a premium!

This year, though, I got him something he'll love and won't expect (a remote control helicopter).
Moratorium it is - I should have thought of this before but it's not really been an issue before. The stuff he bought recently: a part he needed for his shotgun, cigars and a video game. Good grief, could he be any more of boy? My big plan is to give him a composter, since he built a huge raised garden this summer and it would be great to start putting compost in there. He's also on a cooking kick - has been since February - so there are many kitchen items he needs. I think that's what I'll end up telling my parents and brothers - GC to Bed Bath and Beyond or Williams Sonoma. He always needs tools, but that's something he has to choose for himself.
My H got this a couple of years back and went nutso over it! Played with it all day long! What a kid!
OMG I'm buying this for DH this year too! He won't expect it either. But I know he will be super excited when he opens it.
MH would love this! What a great idea.
We have it, I hate it. It is so freaking loud. I've asked DH to make it an outside toy, but he still takes it out indoors.
Umm, yeah. Hubby bought this for himself in October... it was too far away from Christmas for me to justify stealing it from him and holding it hostage until then but I did yell at him! He does love it though. He also crashes it into me and the dog.
Just warning you!
