VHS to DVD

I was considering this as a gift (converting VHS tapes to DVDs) for my parents for Christmas. There is a Cyber Monday special tomorrow at a audio/visual store that would do the conversion themselves. About $13/tape on sale. (Usually $20.)

The other option is to get the converter machine (I don't know if there is a better term for this) on Amazon for about $145. With this option, my parents could convert more tapes but it would be on their own time.

Thoughts? I like this as a gift, but am wondering if I am potentially giving them a chore to do...
