i have been having clicking in my neck for the past year. i went to my primary doctor when it first started and it didn't appear to be going away. all they did was take xrays and pronounce my neck "fine". so that was absolutely no help whatsoever.
recently, i found out my insurance covers a chiropractor. i went this morning. an hour and a half later i had had an xray and treatment for the lower back (i mentioned it sometimes bothers me). when i was done they charged me $14 for pads that were used on my back. i was super annoyed because i don't like people telling me i am going to be charged for something after the fact (apparently insurance doesn't cover them so they were collecting directly from me). i know $14 isn't much but like i said i like to know ahead of time if there's going to be an expense.
so now they want to see me again in the next couple of days to go over their "findings" and their treatment recommendations. he asked me every question under the sun and of course it came out that in addition to my neck i have low back pain, tail bone pain, and bursitis. i'm disappointed because it's clear after today and the next appointment i'll be no closer to any relief for my neck. AND, more importantly, my insurance only pays 80% of this. so i have a feeling it's going to be a recommendation for endless treatments for all these other issues. i won't be able to afford it because even if it's only $20 a session for my part and once a week, i can't afford an $80 a month commitment. and that's probably a conservative guess on my part of what it would cost.
i wish i knew you couldn't just go in and get treatment - that it was this whole "program". sure, i'd love to have everything on my body fixed, but not when i'm broke and have to pay for 20% of it out of pocket.
Re: chiropractor - so disappointed
thanks. it did seem like everyone there was leaving with supplements, neck pillows and other items which weirded me out. i just want my neck fixed so it will stop clicking. where do i go for this???? it's driving me nutty.
I have to agree. I've been to 2 chiropractors. I think the first one I went to was an absolute quack!! He was constantly trying to sell me stuff and wanted me to see him 4 times a week!! But in the summer he was only open mon-thurs 10am-3pm. WTF?!
The second one I went to was a physical therapist/ Chiropractor office. I really liked them and they helped me with my neck a lot. They still wanted to see my 3x a week. I went for a couple of months but at $60 a week it was too expensive to keep up.
I've been to a few chiropractors. I went to one from age 3-6 for my back (born breech, my spine is cooked) and he helped me tremendously. Both of my parents saw him as well, and since my mom stopped going (reloctaed practice) she's had nothing but neck pain. I saw one when I was 11 after a serious accident to my neck. It was weeks of heating pads, energy balls, adjustments, aromatherapy.. One day she wasn't there and her associate helped me. The woman felt over my back and neck, put wedges under my hips, adjusted something, and I was walking out fine in under 10 mins. Chirporactors are like any other specialist.. some are quacks, some are ligit. Any doctor who isn't a nutritionalist tries to sell you something.. run.
Maybe see a physical therapist? Or. better yet... get a massage once a month!
