XP: F/U Nephew Story

I posted in the Thursday Thanksgiving thread that my nephew spent the day in the ER.

Apparently he and a friend were playing with paper airplanes while my SIL/BIL and the other kids parents were cooking Thanksgiving dinner.

Their house is an open floor plan, so everything is kind of just there.

Boys were on the landing 8 steps up from the living room and throwing the planes over the 1/2 wall on the stairs into the living room.

My little nephew can barely see over the wall, so he climbed up and went to throw his plane and without realizing what was going on moved his body in the same direction and went flying over the wall from the landing into the living room floor. He put his hands out to stop his fall and thus now has 2 broke wrists.

Obviously a fall like that could have caused more damage had he hit his head as they initially thought.  He's going to a specialist today to get checked out.

  • Derek's cousin's son (you follow me here?) broke both of his wrists a week or so ago apparently falling while climbing up a fence.

Hopefully the little guy is ok!

  • Well, I'm glad to hear that he didn't hit his head. I hope that his wrists heal quickly. I'll be sending vibes for the little guy and hoping that his appointment with the specialist brings good news.
  • I think I missed the Thanksgiving thread. My jaw dropped when I read this! Poor little guy, that has to be terrible for him. My friends son broke his wrists a while back and it healed really nicely. I didn't know that when you break a bone it heals stronger than it was before it broke. Maybe it's just in kids, I don't know. I hope he feels better soon.

  • Poor boy. Jordan was miserable when he broke his one arm I can't imagine both wrist. Hope he has a fast recovery.

  • Wow. That is awful. I have nightmares about holding Jackson up on something and then dropping him. I also freak out every time DH throws him in the air. I can just see the splat in my mind. Lots of good vibes to your nephew for a speedy recovery.
