OMG ya'll. I am babysitting our nephew/godson today and I have miraculously gotten all three kids to nap at the same time. Woot!!
I ordered a toy from WalMart's website Friday (a black friday deal) and it arrived today. Shipping was only 97 cents. Awesooommmeee.
Our Thanksgiving sucked. I overcooked the cranberry sauce (wtf?), the first batch of potatoes we made were gross (wtf again?) and the pumpkin pecan bread pudding? Utter failure. lol So we go to J's family's and the food there sucked ass, too. Seriously. I'm glad I made a new batch of potatoes, cause you'd think that out of 30+ people someone would have brought some... nope. Only my tiny little serving of dairy free potatoes to split between 30+. I grabbed a pack of rolls at the last minute and I'm glad I did because there were none there. The turkey was lacking flavor completely and the gravy tasted like it came out of a can. I might sound snooty, but don't get me started on the canned peas. There wasn't even any stuffing! W. T. F. man. I spent the eving gorging myself on bourbon balls. I told J I was going to make a whole dinner this weekend, but I may just wait til Christmas. I really really didn't want't to host Christmas lunch, but it IS our turn this year (we were gonna pass it off to J's sister) and I really want a real flippin' meal. /vent
Re: Randoms
You're making me sad.
Most years there is a lot of food. I don't know what happened this year. Seriously.
Ok, I need the recipe for bourbon balls.
And, I had no idea cranberry sauce was cooked. I've never eaten it, but I just assumed it slid right out of the can....
I had to giggle at this! This year I was at my neighbour's apartment (terrible food, btw) and I claimed responsibility for the cranberry sauce. I didn't have time to make it, so I had the cans. Most people are accustomed to the cane, but most of the guests were either Japanese or Chinese, and they looked at it in awe, unsure of what to make of it. I thought it was great
This year was the first year I ever liked the stuffing. I always find it soggy, but I got a top chunk and it was pretty good.
I do notice that Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners are SO different at my ILs than my parents. It's basically the same stuff - turkey, potatoes, mac & cheese, rolls, etc., but my parent's stuff has so much more flavor & color to it. My ILs is okay, but pretty bland. This year I had turkey, plain mashed potatoes, plain corn, plain carrots (I think they were just cut and boiled...steamed...?), and then the aforementioned stuffing. It all looked/tasted pretty blah.
Oh, and I also didn't know cranberry sauce had to be cooked. I don't think I've ever had the real or the canned version.
This made me laugh, sorry! I love cranberry sauce though, and it's a must have for Thanksgiving with both H and I's families.
umm no stuffing seriously?
There were only 4 of us eating and I made two stuffings, huge batch of mac and cheese, potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, rolls, our turkey was injected with two jars of creole butter then we used the oil-less fryer this year, and then I have to laugh because I do my cranberries out of the can however I buy the whole cranberries not the thing that slides right out and I add orange marmelade and pecans to it...
with that many people you'd think there would've been plenty of food.
I would be upset and totally would make my own dinner too
