Cyber Monday Randoms

Good morning, pals.  I hope the day back to work for many of you isn't terrible.

Anyone care to review the Thanksgiving long weekend?  Fun plans for the week?  Online shopping deals?

Re: Cyber Monday Randoms

  • Thanksgiving lasted about 2 1/2 hrs. The time to get to my parents eat dinner and dessert and pack up leftovers and drive home. Yep its real exciting during the holidays. Christmas will be the same but maybe 3hrs b/c of gifts.

I've missed put 3X now getting a good deal on the Mr Coffee K-cup maker. 3X! bangs head on wall

DH's bday is this week. I have no gift, no money and no idea what to make for his bday dinner. DH hasn't been much help as he hasn't given my any ideas on what he wants to eat.

  • BLERG.  Back at work.

Thanksgiving weekend was nice.  We were up north.  It was nice to see my family.  My brother brought his new girlfriend home for the weekend.  She seems nice.

I feel overwhelmed by Christmas shopping this year for some reason.  I just don't have much focus.  And I'm morally torn between the ease and cheapness of doing my shopping on Amazon (or similar sites) and the extra time, effort, and often money it takes to support local businesses.

  • I think that the early arrival of Christmas in stores and the big push and buzz about Black Friday starting on Thanksgiving has shoppers feeling pressured.  We have enough time.  We're chipping away at our list little by little.

Kasa, I understand that tension between online vs. local.  Hard work.  Where is the new girlfriend from?

Deeder, it seems you're down today.  Hope the day gets better.

  • New girlfriend is originally from Washington (state) and currently living in Chicago.

Yeah, I may be a bit cranky. Sorry. Holidays kind of get me down. We are also waiting on payments from clients so we can take care of bills and pick up a couple of winter tires for the car.

My green bean & corn casserole turned out really good for Thanksgiving. I think I'll make it a permanent addition.

  • Deeder, I tend to get cranky around holidays too...you are not alone. Our Thanksgiving was nice. Noah LOVED the food (except the turkey) and did great at the gathering even though there were too many people crammed in a small space. Only shopping I did is online with Barnes and Noble. I get all of the nieces and nephews books for Christmas. I was able to get 3 hardcover picture books, a board book and 2 paperback non-fiction books for $36 shipped. Score!

Yeah, I may be a bit cranky. Sorry.

Oh, you're allowed: don't apologize!  I genuinely hope things get better for you today.

  • We went to the parade in Detroit on Thanksgiving.  It was nice to be not freezing (42 at parade time), and it was so much fun to see with the kids.

  • Overall I had a good weekend.

Saturday was awful 90% of the day.  But we managed (through all of the crappiness) to go tree hunting and get it home, up and decorated.  Not exactly how I envisioned, but it's up and looks pretty.

I spent too much money (on myself) and didn't get anymore Christmas shopping done, but I'm not too worried about it yet.  And I had no problem finding a cute outfit to wear to work today, so it's all good.  Stick out tongue

  • Great weather for the parade! Zeeland has a light parade tonight and Holland does tomorrow. Hopefully getting to both.

  • Morning girls!  We had a fabulous Thanksgiving.  I picked up our turkey from Hefron Farms on Wednesday and brined it overnight.  Let me just say that when we transferred it from the roasting pan to the platter it was so tender that it was falling apart.  It was definitely one of the best turkeys I ever had. Thank you so much to the girls who recommended the brining!  Friday we went and got our tree.  It was so nice out that I didn't even wear a coat!  Friday night we decorated and DH put up all the Christmas lights.  Saturday we celebrated Christmas with DH's sister's family.  The kids had a blast.  Yesterday was church and lay around all day, day.  Ahh!

I had a doctor's appointment today and my amniotic fluid levels were lower than they were last week.  I have to keep a close eye on the baby's activity between now and Thursday at my next appointment. If the levels are any lower, then I could be having a December 1st baby!  Everything else looks great, though!  I got my steroid shots for the baby's lungs last week and I think I'm ready to have this little stinker!  I hope everyone has a good day!

  • Anyone trying / tried any new recipes for their leftover's? If you have them, I did a Turkey Shepards Pie and SS had 3 helpings! Tonight I'll make a pot pie to finish it off.

Wow!  That's exciting.  I'm glad you're feeling ready.  I'm sure you'd like him to stay put for a little longer.  Thinking about you.

Saturday was awful 90% of the day.

    Aw, why is that?

T has an allergy/asthma attack.  He was having difficulty breathing all day long.  We tried his inhalers, they did not work at all.  So we did 3 nebulizer treatments.  Those were pure hell.  (And we never did make it through a full treatment.)  He screams and kicks and fights and turns bright red and cries through the entire 5-6 minute treatment (doesn't sound long until you are wrestiling with your toddler for the entire 5-6 minutes.)  Finally, I got us dressed to take him to the ER and his coughing almost completely stopped (of course.)  So we put him to bed with his door wide open (never done that before) and kept an ear on him all night.  He woke up Sunday almost completely back to normal.

It was just a really long, stressful day.

Ugh, that sucks!  DS has asthma, too, but he's never had a full-blown "attack".  Oddly enough, he doesn't mind doing his breathing treatments.  We just turn on the tv, put his mask on and he's good.  I guess I should feel lucky.  I hope T continues to do well this week!

  • Crazy busy.  It's been an insane day.  First the power stearing in my car went out for a few minutes, it was very strange.  I had to crank the wheel super hard to quick pull onto the next street.  I turned off the car, then started it back up and it was fine.  Super weird.  Driving a car without power steering is really hard! And work is insane busy.  I can't keep up.  I'm getting behind and...gah!  I needed to take a break and eat lunch or I may have cried.  LOL.  Hopefully after my little lunch break I can back into it and get caught up.  I need 5:00 to be here like now.

That's cool.  I'm hoping when T gets a little older he will handle it better.  Fingers crossed.  :)

  • Mol, sorry to hear about T's attack and the bad treatment experiences.  Is there a dvd of cartoons that you can use (or maybe youtube videos) that he can watch only during treatments?  Or, am I remembering that he's not all that interested in tv?  How about finger painting or something... I know I'm stretching, and it's not my problem to solve.  I just feel so bad for all of you.

This made me smile and giggle. Thanks

  • Isn't that funny, Deeder?  I "like" JoAnn Fabrics on FB, and people are posting their crafted Christmas things.  A woman posted that photo with the caption "this is one of my basset hound nativity scenes I made with Femo clay."

  • I don't have to do much shopping at all, that's one of the nice things about not having kids ;-) I usually go in with my sisters for a gift for my parents. We trade names for the siblings so I just have to get one male gift and one female gift. DH is in charge of gifts for his family.

I've been bartering part of my raw milk share for homemade soaps, so I'll have that on hand to give to any friends or co-workers who creep up.

  • Hypothetically...

you call a meeting with 4 other people.

you give options of dates, and select one because 3 people are available that day.

    later two drop out.

the remaining suggests we not meet

you reply (because this is all email) with "I suggest _____ for plan B"

and then you don't hear from anyone

Would it be safe to assume that all involved would understand that the original meeting was not happening?

I would definitely assume that, so yes.

  • Yeah... I got a "so, we're not meeting tonight?" message from one of the people who said she wasn't available.
