Dermatology recs?

I'm thinking of "breaking up" with my current dermatology clinic and moving elsewhere.  I've been going to Uptown Dermatology & SkinSpa, and.... I'm not unhappy with them per se, just get a kind of "eh" feeling about some of my services there, and am playing with the idea of trying some place new (preferably closer to where I live in St. Paul).

Any dermatology raves?

Specifically, does anyone have experience with dermatology at Aspen Medical Group - Bandana Square?  (Really convenient location for me.)

If it makes a difference - I'd be going for skin cancer testing (mole checks, etc.)

Re: Dermatology recs?

  • I have been to Dermatology Consultants in the Midway area 2-3 times.  I think I've seen a different doctor each time though - so can't recommend a certain person

One thing that I would recommend is not 'breaking up' with current dermatologist until you can get in with a new one.   The last time I tried to schedule it was like 6 months out for new patients at multiple dermatology practices.... so you may want to hold on to your current one until you know if like the new one or not because it is pretty hard to get in most places as a newbie.

  • Ah, I just broke down and made an appointment at Uptown.  I remembered that I had a voucher for a free massage there, so... might as well continue going for now so I can get my free massage :)

But I'm still interested in people's derm recs... for future reference.

  • I recommend Dr. Michelle Bussman at Dermatology Specialists. They have clinics in Edina  and Eden Prairie. So not right in your neighborhood, but Edina would also hopefully not be too far.

DH and I have been going to her for several years for mole checks/skin cancer screenings. From my experience, she is really good at knowing on sight what is worrisome. Last year I had a biopsy that turned out to be very early stage, non-malignant cancer that she was able to remove before it became an issue. Other years she has done biopsies and said they were probably nothing to worry about, and she ended up being right on those, too.

  • If anyone has rec for dermatologists in N or NW suburbs too? I need to make an appt and not sure where to go. Thanks!

  • I see Kathryn Shrift at Skin Care Doctors in Edina, and I love her.  (And I can generally get in within a week!)  They have offices in several locations, although I don't know for sure which offices she goes to, other than Edina and Burnsville.

I second this. I see Dr April Farrell and she is WONDERFUL. Super personable and very detail oriented.

  • Thanks much for the recommendations!  I'll save these recs to refer to when it comes time to set up my next appointment.  I'm 90% certain I have skin cancer (basal cell) on my face (ugh-not my FACE!! :(   , so... I might make my decision about whether or not to stay with Uptown based on how this upcoming appointment goes.
