Job Application Question

Prior to my mat leave I worked at a large company in my city and I have hopes of getting back in there full-time, rather than on contract. A posting just came up and I emailed the hiring manager to inquire more about the department and the job (to make myself known). Anyways, he caught me off guard and told me to just send my resume and when I would be available to start.

Anyways, my questions are these:

Should I send a cover letter as well? Should it still be very formal or a little less since I have already been in correspondence with him?

Should I still apply formally through the website or do you think applying specifically to him means I don't need to apply online as well?

TIA!!

Re: Job Application Question

  • I would definitely write a cover letter. It shows your initiative and will definitely help if your resume goes "up the chain" to people who don't know you at all. I wouldn't apply online, though, since it seems he's giving you the opportunity to apply via him directly.

    Good luck!!

  • Yes to CL. I'd still make it a standard CL, but at least you have a name to address it to.

I would e-mail him again and ask if you should apply directly.

Agreed.  You might have to apply through the site to make it "official".
