Where do you buy furniture locally?

Where would you go in OKC to buy the following furniture items?

dining room table

six drawer dresser

leather arm chair

accent tables

We've lived in smaller spaces since getting married, and will desperately need to upgrade/update our furniture once we buy a home and move in the next few months. When we got married we were fresh out of college and most of our furniture was hand me downs, Target, Craigslist, gifted, etc. We did get our couch and leather chair from Mathis Brothers, but that's pretty much the extent of my furniture shopping.

Re: Where do you buy furniture locally?

  • We've been pretty happy with Edmond Furniture Gallery and WoodCraft by Rod.

  • We have purchased most of our stuff in Dallas - sorry Sad - its tax free.

Our dining room table came from the Weir's outlet in Uptown Dallas.

Drawer dresser - bought off of craig's list and refinished.

Leather arm chair - you should consider checking the As Is room at Mathis Brothers - I bought a really nice Lane leather recliner there a few years ago for $300.  Ethan Allen occassionally has floor model samples that are a good deal as well.  Also, one of my friends bought some furniture at the Edmond Furniture Gallery and got some good deals.

Accent tables - bought these at an antique store and refinished them.

  • I have a love/hate relationship with Galleria. It's your standard huge furniture store with slightly sleazy salespeople, but we've had really good luck there. H and I bought a bed, nightstands, a dresser, a coffee table, and an end table there a few months ago. I wouldn't say it's the highest quality, but the stuff we got is solid wood, and the prices are great. We decided to save the nicer, more expensive furniture for when we move into a bigger house.

  • All of our bedroom and living room furniture is from Bob Mills, we've had really good luck there. We looked at several places when we were bedroom furniture shopping last year but ended up back at Bob Mills and we've been really happy with our purchases.

Good tip, thanks! I am watching Craigslist...but here is my embarrassing confession: I have seen too many bedbug Dateline/Hoarder/etc. shows and have this irrational fear about getting bedbugs from secondhand furniture Embarrassed A girlfriend of mine who lives out of state got bedbugs this way Ick!

This is kind of how I feel about Mathis Brothers...we just kept ending up back there. Our stuff has held up decently well, and it's middle of the road quality.

Bedbugs can't survive in Oklahoma.  It gets too hot, then too cold.

  • A bedbug tip:

If you buy solid wood anything off Craigslist, you should be fine as long as you search it thoroughly. It's the upholstered stuff you have to worry about.

If you do find something upholstered that you love, good news: It's almost winter, and bedbugs die in freezing weather. So if you're able to wrap the item up so it's waterproof, stick it outside for a few days when it will get below freezing at night. A good freeze will kill the little suckers.

Nope nope. Bedbugs can survive in OK, I'm sorry to say.

  • This isn't local but...you might try Crate and Barrel in Dallas...usually they have their sample sales and floor model sales in December.  Around 70% off...

Agree! Our bug guy for the university owns his own extermination company and does a ton of side work just dealing with bed bugs.

  • I'm no longer a poor student, but I still get much of my furniture from Craigslist. I've gotten a nice solid wood desk and a solid wood dining table off the site, but I had to be really patient waiting for something that met my standards to be posted. I've been looking for too long for the perfect bookcase, so I'll have to check out some of the stores other posters listed.

We ordered our coffee and end tables at Haggard's Fine Furniture from the Simply Amish line. They were custom made and solid wood, so a bit pricey but exactly what I wanted. I'm thinking of slowly replacing some of our other cheap mis-matched items (namely bedroom set) as I can afford it, if I can't find anything else I like better in a store.

I love Amish furniture...  I have been able to separate the furniture makers from the puppy mills in my mind and heart.  I have an Amish made couch (Smith Brothers) and have a bedroom set picked out .  I do most of my furniture shopping in Yukon  (Stuarts Home Furnishings) and I have been happy with everything so far.  The owner of the store is always there and the only salesman  :)  I will not go back to Mathis Bros for anything.... Too many bad experiences.  I would honestly rather pay more than shop there.
