Lincoln moms

Where are all the baby/breastfeeding classes at in Lincoln?

I know all the hospitals and then Milkworks----anywhere else?

Milkworks BF class unfortunately the Dec/Jan classes do not coincide with my work schedule and my schedule is already out so couldnt request them off.

Re: Lincoln moms

  • Also, looks like Bryans classes are going to be hard to make too :( I just wished both me and my DH had normal schedules. I doubt we will both be able to get off for the same classes and you pay by the couple. GRR!

Was it beneficial to take the Childbirth classes? I know its the internet but baby center I think has a free video one. Which its free and the internet so I'm sure we would get nothing out of it..might check that out this weekend.

  • We only made it to the first couple of classes before I got put on bedrest. Honestly, you can learn just as much information online or from friends/family, IMO.

And as far as breastfeeding classes go --- I never took one of those either. I utilized the lactation consultant right in the hospital and tried to do as much learning online as I could beforehand. But really, it was hard to make sense of it until I was actually experiencing it. And every baby is so different, that the most learning is going to happen right there in the hospital. Then those resources are available (usually for a fee) after you leave the hospital --- so take advantage of it as much as you can while you're there... including taking your pump if you plan on pumping so they can show you how to use it correctly.

  • Thanks! I'll be taking my pump. I will also have Milkworks to go to  after the baby too. We are still going to try to make classes work. We'll just see how it all plays out. At Bryan it sounds like they have a free "mommies club" and with that is free lactation/breastfeeding help or services so I"ll sign up for that too.

My SIL, sister, and cousin all have breastfed and 2 are C-sections and my sister was a regular birth and I was in the room the whole entire time---induction to delivery and we have the same doctor so I think as far as that goes it will be fine.

My DH probably would learn some from the classes but I'm looking at getting him a book to read......and "making" him read it :)

Thanks for the info! Other input would be helpful too!

  • My DH really enjoyed reading The Expectant Father. I kept it in the bathroom for him and he had it read in no time :)

  • St. E has classes too.   I did not go to any classes but read a couple of books beforehand.   Do we have a LaLeche group around here?  Might look to see on their website.

Who is your pediatrician going to be?   Highly suggest Dr's of Children if you do not have one.

I'm on a toss up on the classes.  I felt like I learned information that I would not have known ahead of time but it was hard going at night after working full time.

  • We went with Dr Jason Davis of Lincoln Ped. Group- Came very highly recommended by tons of nurses I work with.
