Restaurant for 5 year anniversary dinner?

DH and I will be in Maine next week to check out the Auburn/Lewiston area as we are considering relocating from Ohio (for DH's job).  Our 5 year anniversary is this month and we would like to go out to a nice restaurant while we are kid free on our trip.  We were thinking somewhere in the Portland area, but are open to suggestions elsewhere.  I was hoping for somewhere that has good seafood, steak and wine.  Any recommendations?

  • Fuel or Fishbones are both great options in Lewiston.

  • The 2 listed above are good options.  This is another one we go to.  The creamy vegetable soup is so good.  I've been craving it lately and would love to try to recreate it at home. Greene is the next town over from Lewiston.

  • I second the Sedgley Place in Greene! However, If you go to Portland, Hugo's is awesome too!

  • Oooh, we are dying to go to Hugo's (DH randomly won a gift card for there yesterday, so we're even more excited!)...

For Portland, I would also suggest Bar Lola (great for a special occasion, they offer a tasting menu and really draw out the experience), Grace (beautiful, in an old church), The Grill Room (great for steak, but also good seafood), Vignola or Cinque Terre (for Italian).

  • I was also going to suggest The Grill Room in Portland for steak and wine. Vignola is also top notch. Katahdin was always one of our favorites, but I haven't been in a few years so I can't vouch for them lately. I hear Bresca is amazing, and I've (sadly) heard mixed reviews about Grace, though I'm still dying to try them out.

  • Katahdin is still a nice place - the owner/bartender Whitney is wonderful, so if you are up for sitting at the bar, I think that adds to the experience.

Bresca is very good and I, too, have heard mixed reviews about Grace, but have been a few times and was always really happy with my experience.

  • Hugos and fore street are my two recs. You'll need reservations for both places

  • In Portland, Grace is really good and I also liked The Salt Exchange. And that is the extent of my fancy restaurant experience ;)
