I can't joke with too many people IRL about my mom, but I have to share some of these doozies. She's never been out of the US and just got her first passport 2 months ago - so we've bought her a ticket and she'll be here next week. The questions I've been getting through email are classic. God help the people at the airport, the people of Hong Kong and ME. The following are direct cut & pastes from various emails in the last week...
1) As far as international checked baggage: I am traveling to "Asia", right?
2) As far as my passport: where do you keep yours ? When I have been traveling (prior to my passport), I have kept my boarding passes, etc., secured in with the girls (in my bra). Much easier than searching through my pocketbook.
3) I am okay with the "do not joke about anything" with the airlines.
4) [When I told her the seats in business class recline flat] Are there only two positions up and flat ? I probably will have to bring my wedge; I am not able to sleep flat. Would you happen to know the width of the seats ?
5) I noticed you had snack packs for the kids travel....Should I bring food ? Thermal bag with Sandwiches, (without the ice packs) snacks etc?
6) I didn't know they celebrated Christmas in Hong Kong. I thought it was Budda Land.
7) I now on a full time basis, wear adult underwear. Do you think there will be any problem with security?
Re: My Mom's first international trip... this should be fun
Last year when my MIL came over it was her first international trip. Qantas sent a generic email to her (and about a billion other people) and it was "signed" from the CEO. She asked us if she needed to respond to the email. She's sweet but clueless.
LOL! If I told her that she would think I was serious! Instead I told her that as long as there isn't metal in her underwear she'll be fine ;-)
So cute! You'll have to keep up updated on other funnies during her trip!
Tot Ziens - you crack me up!
This! I hope you have a great time with her and wish you lots of patience :-)
Too funny- I also find the comments endearing. I would much rather have someone like this come to visit rather than a 'know-it-all'. But yes, I can also appreciate you'll need some patience!
What a nice daughter buying her business class tickets! I'm picturing her boarding the plane with her wedge, lunch box and passport in her bra. Make sure she gets a look at the economy section- otherwise she'll think everyone who travels long-haul gets a bed.
Enjoy the time together (it is always an adjustment going from not seeing each other for such a long-time to suddenly spending everyday together).
The choice of business class was more of necessity, than just being nice. DH seriously didn't think she'd survive coach. But I am cracking up at the image you are picturing hahahahaha! Love it!
Thanks for all the words of encouragement to be patient. Got a new email from Mom tonight:
8) As I was checking my passport, I noticed it has a "new" smell. Ten seconds later I had an Asthma attack... just great... I am allergic to my passport.
God grant me the serenity...
Your mother sounds hilarious!
