I know this is way in advance but I need help with anniversary trip!
So now that I am in graduate school our lovely 2nd wedding anniversary falls right into the beginning of finals. So needless to say our anniversary celebration is getting pushed back a few weeks. My little sister is graduating from high school in early/mid May in Atlanta. I'm thinking if we can go somewhere that lies between here and there and take a detour for our anniversary/I survived my first year of grad school trip. Any ideas for places that are between DC and Atlanta that would be nice for a weekend trip? Right now we haven't decided if we are driving or flying, but if we take a detour trip it would likely be driving on the way there or the way back.

I've always wanted to go to South Carolina - Charleston, Hilton Head Island or Myrtle Beach
Or you could go to Savannah Georgia!
Last state I would pick would be North Carolina - I have a friend that lives in Chapel Hill or I would like to visit Charlotte!

I LOVE Hilton Head and Savannah. Those would be my first picks (they are about 45min from one another.
I also like the Outerbanks in NC or Virginia Beach and Williamsburg.
Charleston!!!! One of my favorite places ever. I've heard Savannah is amazing and always wanted to go.
Charlotte is cool but may be a little out of the way as it is almost to Tennessee. I also realllly love the Outer Banks.
We went to Asheville, NC last year for a wedding and it seemed like a cute little town to go back to visit. From what we could tell, there were tons of shops and places to eat all within walking distance of each other.
I like the other ideas too....maybe Myrtle Beach, Savannah, Outerbanks, etc.
I live in SC & would absolutely go to Charleston over Myrtle Beach. Nothing against Myrtle Beach it's just not my thing - it very crowded & there are much prettier beaches in the state. For example you could got to the Isle of Palms near Charleston. Savannah is great but there is MUCH more to do in Chas.
If you want to go a different route DH & I went to Asheville NC for our 1st anniversary. There was a GREAT package deal at a little hotel called Brookstone. The hotel was good & we had a fabulous time. The Biltmore house & grounds are amazing!
If you come thru Florence SC on I-95 let me know, I live 10 minutes from there. It would be great to meet you.
I hope this helps.
I vote Savannah!
Its a great place to go for the weekend, both romantic and a lot of fun. When I lived there we would drive to Atlanta a lot, and it is only about a 3 1/2 hour drive.
I will let you know when we figure out our route, I would love to meet you!
Thanks ladies! I love all of these ideas! I really want to head for the coast, but DH wants to stay inland, we will have to see what we can compromise on.

I love Asheville and driving through the Smoky Mountains
