Venue for small wedding (40 people) in Ballston?

My 60-something year old aunt is getting married in March.  This is her third marriage, and that really only matters because it's to say that she is not interested in having a traditional wedding.  She plans to invite 40 people, and she and her FI would like to have a dinner (she stresses that it will not be a "reception") at a place called Willow in Ballston.

She was thinking that she'd have the ceremony at her house in Annandale, then everyone meet in Ballston for dinner, but that's just because she can't come up with any ideas of where to have a ceremony in Ballston - she'd actually rather not have it at her house.

This is in March 2012, so the popular/big places are likely booked already. The ceremony will likely be about 20 minutes long.  She does not want to have the ceremony in the restaurant because apparently the room where the dinner will be is not very private/quiet.

Any "unusual" ideas?  I know nothing about Arlington.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

  • Do you or anyone in your family know anyone who lives in one of those nice apartments/condos in Ballston?  Most have party rooms, many on the upper floors with great views.  I've been to a number of bridal and baby showers at many of the complexes and they were all lovely.

Willow is great btw.  DH and I have had many delicious dinners there.  I think you will enjoy it.

I wish I did - I was thinking that same thing - either a party room in an apartment buliding, or in some nice lobby of an office building.  I just don't have connections to folks in Ballston.

I've never been to Willow but her FI knows the chef - glad to know it's a good place!

  • I've never actually been inside (which is shameful, especially for a recent art student!!), but I drive by the Arlington Arts Center on a daily basis and I've seen weddings held there. The building was completely renovated just a couple years ago and it looks really nice from the outside.

eta: here is the link with info about rentals https://www.arlingtonartscenter.org/about/rentals (sorry no clicky!)

YES! this was a back up space for a friend who got married at Netherlands Carrlion (the bell tower by iwo jima)....March might be cold for an outside ceremony but that location is super nice.

  • Another Nestie (MaryandKirk) turned me on to the KoC halls in Arlington - http://www.kofcedw2473.org/facilities/Wedding_packages.pdf

They have several smaller options and I think you can get the space for just the wedding (the link if for the reception).  I am looking at using it for my Remission Celebration!

  • Great ideas!

  • I have been to an event at the VFW in Arlington near there.  I don't know how rentals work, but this is it:

The space isn't fancy, but they do have a hall.
