Good Tuesday Morning!

Good Morning everyone! What is everyone up to today?

I'm going to be busy sewing, hopefully get a few of my last projects for the baby boutique done, and then keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to do more for them anymore. I can't wait to be done the end of December!

Re: Good Tuesday Morning!

  • Good morning!  I'm staying at home today to keep an eye on Conan (my dog).  We've been fasting him since yesterday afternoon, to help ease the constipation.  I'm waiting to hear back from his vet about what the radiologist had to say about his x-rays from yesterday.  He pooped on his walk last night, so I'm hoping for more poop today so he can be cleared to eat!  A hungry dog is a feisty dog, today should be an interesting day...

  • mgoss- so glad Conan's starting to feel a little better, hopefully things get moving again today. Wink

The highlight of my day is that I'm going to try a new chicken and dumpling soup recipe for tonight's dinner.  I'm feeling like this hearty soup will be perfect for tonight's cold weather.

  • Good Tuesday morning everyone!

MGoss, hoping your little (four-legged) guy gets better soon!

Today is crazy busy for me - headed to the gym but first starting some laundry so that I can unpack.  We had a nice Thanksgiving (x2, one in Seattle, one on the East Coast) but didn't get back until late last night and now I have to start unpacking and getting the house ready for our Christmas party this week - so lots of laundry, vacuuming, dusting, and trying Pinterest recipes in my future.  After the gym I hope to go to the grocery store, am meeting two girlfriends for lunch, and then I tutor from 2-5 today and then have a tutor training later tonight.

I can't believe we're almost to December - wow.  The next few weeks are crazy busy.... 2012 will be here before I know it!

Hope you all have a great day!  PS uwhuskygirl - how was Iceland?  I want to hear about what you were able to see!  Any luck on the northern lights?  Was it beautiful all covered in snow?

  • I'm exhausted. I swear holidays bring out the worst in some people.

I would like to just go back to bed this morning.

  • Good morning!

MGoss - so sorry your little guy isn't feeling well! I'm glad you can be with him today - hope he's back to his normal self very quickly!

UW - care to share the chicken/dumplings soup recipe? That sounds so, so good!

Just the typical busy Tuesday for me today... work, spin class, meeting with the girl I mentor. It's hard to jump back in after last week was so relaxing. Oh well. I'm happy the rain has gone away (at least, for now!) and I got in a great run last night, so no complaints.

  • Good morning. I'm working from home this afternoon to wait for the appliance delivery people. Hopefully they will come earlier in the window than later.

I'm working reference this morning and it is so quiet. It's the last week of the quarter so hopefully people are well into writing their research papers. If they are asking for help at this point they are in trouble. Next I'm advising new to college students. Freshman registration started yesterday and it was very busy. I'm hoping for less busy today.

    Have a good day ladies!

  • Good morning, everyone!

Nothing especially interesting going on here today. I am planning to get some dishes done (...from Thanksgiving... :X), might or might not take my first solo trip to the store in the Shiny New Car, and we have our penultimate childbirth class tonight, too. Whee!

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Anniversary
  • Good morning! Thanksgiving was the start of just crazy holiday busyness and I am starving for a breather.

Over the weekend, I attempted cinnamon latte macarons and ended up in epic failure but I have enough egg whites for at least 5 more attempts to figure out my new oven.

Last night, I took a class at the Pantry at Delancey and really enjoyed it. I wish it had been more hands on rather than observation, but I still felt I learned quite a bit and we made this amazing dried fruit dark chocolate bark that I am so addicted to now.

Tonight, we have a night of hot pot to say goodbye to a friend who's leaving for home after a 1.5 week vacation here and I think I might start holiday baking this weekend after I replenish my flour and sugar supply. ^^

Oh. MY FAVORITES WON THE SING OFF. So stoked. I am so so so thrilled for them.

I loved Iceland. H and I are thinking about going back this summer and driving around the entire island.

We made it to the Fish Company and the food was fantastic! We tried shark there (not the fermented shark) and it wasn't too bad.

We did do the super jeep tour of the Golden Circle and the longest glacier in Iceland. I've never seen anything so beautiful in my life. It was absolutely stunning.

No luck on the Northern Lights. It snowed 4 out of 5 days that we were there, but I'm not complaining at all. There was about 4" of snow on the ground in Reykjavik and the city was just beautiful. They had started putting up Christmas decorations and it just looked magical.

Thanks again for all of your recommendations!

H's pictures turned out better than mine. Here's his Picassa link. I'm going to DD the link in a bit.

The doctor doesn't know exactly what's going on with his face, but doesn't seem overly concerned. She gave him some antibiotics, steroids and pain killers and he has to go back to see her next week. The swelling has gone down a tiny bit, but his face is still misshapen. He says he feels like the elephant man, so he's been working from home. Thanks for asking!

  • I'm glad he's improving -- poor guy :(

It looks so amazing there!  And COLD!
Why is the water blue and shimmery on the bottom (in the first few photos)?
Thanks for sharing the photos!  I love the church photos, and the sun over the fog and snow!

I can't figure out why the water is so blue, but the shimmer is from people throwing coins in to the water.

  • Good morning! I hope today goes by fast. I normally will get shipment Tuedays, which helps keep me busy. This week we don't get it till tomorrow which sucks! That means I will be trying to get the new comics out the same day. Ugh...

I wish it was Friday, I want to put up the Christmas tree!

    Have a good day everyone!

  • Good morning (sort of!) last night was a long one. I did not fall asleep until almost 8 so I just woke up about 30 min ago.

My goal today is to finally get our house back in order. I feel like I got out of my chore routine and this house needs a good scrubbing. I might also try to pick a paint color for our bedroom.

I don't know exactly all the science behind it, but it has something to do with the impurities in the water (since this is glacier water there aren't any), the depth of the water, and the light waves and how they refract/reflect (never know which one is which).  The water in Thingvelir is basically all glacial melt, so the water is super clear and the depth affects the color.  When we snorkeled Silfra the colors under the water were so incredible - which was surprising to both me and H.

UW, thanks for sharing your pictures (I took a quick peek before you took the link down, in case you were able to see who was viewing your H's Picasa album since I was signed in to GMail at the time).  Looks like you guys had a great time and fun (for me) to put a face to a screen name. I would share mine from May but they're on FB and it gives my full name when I post them... but they look pretty similar to yours, minus all the snow!  If you go back next summer, I'd say shoot for July as we went in May / June and it was still cold and pretty dead, and friends of ours went in late August and said it wasn't very nice then.  You can also fly on from Iceland to other points in Europe on Iceland Air (we hopped on to Paris) which makes it easier to justify returning to some place you've already been (IMO - I don't like to go to the same place twice).  BTW, what did you think of the Blue Lagoon?

  • hi! good morning! i'm back in america (wooo!). i just got home from a 3hr breakfast with picks and babypicks--and they are just both so loveable i'm so happy i got to spend some of my day with them..

i'm busy today with chores, but will surely catch up tonight, so don't be alarmed when you see me replying to week-old posts haha.

uw- hope your h's face gets better and you don't have to wake up next to elephant man for long ;)

mgoss- i missed the beginning of the story but hope babydog feels better soon!

everyone else, have a wonderful day!

BTW, what did you think of the Blue Lagoon?

I liked it, but I didn't love it. I'm still not convinced of the mud's "healing" powers. The scenery was beautiful, but I don't think I'd go back and do it again.

Oh and I think I figured out your mushy lobster situation.  I didn't realize this until the 2nd "lobster" meal, but their lobster is actually Langoustine. I was expecting Maine type lobster and so I was really disappointed the first night bc it was so mushy. Then the second night the waiter explained that they, mostly, serve Langoustine on the island and that lobster is much harder to find. So, the texture of Langoustine is supposed to be mushy like that. Confused

  • More bad dreams last night for me so I'm feeling run down and cranky today. The run down is bad since so many bugs are going around right now. I feel nauseated today and did last night and the night before. (No, pregnant not an option.) I don't feel like doing anything by the time I get home because it's SO DARK and that makes me cranky, too.

In glacial lakes of the Cascades you often see a milky blue-green color, which is from the mineral deposits carried in the glacial melt-water (glacial water doesn't always look this way, but when it does, this is why).  This is different from the bright aqua color of icebergs which are that color (essentially) b/c of less light-refracting air spaces.  I wonder if the lava has something to do with it -- here the water is milky (possibly b/c of particulates in the water) and there the lava doesn't erode and the water stays clear... very interesting!  Thanks for the info!
