My grandpa gave me a little "divorce present". Just a little extra holiday cash. He said that he wanted me and Caroline to have a decent Christmas without stressing about bills. I had a strict budget and I still plan to stick to it, but this just gives me a little cushion in case something unexpected comes up this month. It does take a bit of stress off my shoulders.
He said he checked the paper every day (even though I emailed when things were final) to see my name listed as "divorced". It is things like this that remind me that there are so many good guys out there. I am lucky to have him, my dad, my brother, other family and BF. Happy Holidays!

Re: Thank you Grandpa!
That's so awesome! Yay for great Grandpa's
I met my grandparents for lunch a while back, and my grandpa had cut an article out of the paper that was a checklist of things not to forget as your divorce was being finalized (changing wills, beneficiaries, etc.) I had already taken care of most everything on the list, but I was touched at his efforts. I love that man!
uhh, divorces are advertised in the paper where you live?
That seems INCREDIBLY weird? And also awkward. WTF?
Yes, our paper lists engagements (these are called in), marriages and divorces (obtained by public record). It is very small print and you have to look for it. It also list houses purchased, forclosures, arrests and other matters of public record.
ETA: I thought this was common practice in most metro newspapers? No?
I hope my divorce wasn't in the paper anywhere! That seems like a violation of privacy for some reason!
That's so nice of him! What an awesome way to start the holidays!
I got a gift from my grandma right after I left XH (she gave the gift to all of the grandchildren) and it came at such a great time.
I also agree that it's weird about the divorces being listed. I don't think they do that in my area.
That was super nice of him!
I also ditto that it's weird for newspapers to announce divorces. I have seen marriages, deaths, and birth announcements, but not that.
I think they are most places. Marriage licenses and divorces are always listed in some way in the back, hard to find spot.
It's the norm here to have them printed as well...it's public record.
