Teachers - where to get books?

Where do you usually get books for the classroom? Is it through the scholastic book order or do you buy from places here in town?

Our preK teachers mentioned that they bring books from their home so I'd like to get a gift card for them to pick out some for the classroom as a gift. I'm just not sure where to get the card from.

Re: Teachers - where to get books?

  • I'm not a teacher but I've been impressed with the books at Learning Post in Ankeny. I've never been to the Urbandale store but I assume it's similar.

  • I normally ordered my books from Scholastic. They have the best prices and teachers earn bonus points from purchases they make (and students make) and then can get free books. For the low price I knew that if the book got torn up or damaged it was fairly inexpensive to replace!  If there was a specific title I wanted I would check Half Price books and Amazon. Because my books were in the hands of little people all the time I had a difficult time justifying spending lots of money on one title at a traditional book store like Barnes & Noble!
