Re: POLL: Car seat location

  • When we just had Marshall we put him in the middle.  But with that position we weren't able to use the latch system, we had to use the seat belt.

  • Alex was on the passenger side. Split rear makes middle not an option for my car. We just moved her to the driver side over the weekend. A rearfacing seat will push the seat in front of it up, so that has to be on the passenger side.
  • Sawyer's seat has been and will stay in the middle until we have to move it; so not until we add in a second carseat.

  • When we had our car seat in the car, he was always in the middle. Now that we have a van he's in the driver's side middle row.
  • When it was just Abby she was on the rear passenger side.  She was always RFing in our old car so we had her behind the passenger.  In the van we have the twins in the captains seats and her in the middle back.
  • We tried the middle in both cars but in my old car the middle was raised a little bit and made the base too wobbly.  In my new car I didnt try the middle because he is too heavy for me to lift all the way to the middle.  DH has him in the middle in his vehicle though.  The bad thing I have found about putting him on the passenger side is that the passenger seat doesnt go as far back as I would like it to and I have a Tahoe which is a pretty big car.

  • Mads is on the passenger side.... with the Pilot it would be tough for me to reach her in the middle, especially now that I'm getting bigger.  (Plus it's easier to see her & hand her snacks, etc in that position)

  • Liam is on the rear passenger side so I can see him when I am driving!
  • When I had one car seat many moons again, I had it behind the passenger seat so that I could quick reach back to the baby if I had to. Now in the Pilot, Logan is behind the passenger seat forward facing and Lincoln is behind the driver seat forward facing. Lily loves sitting in the middle of the 2 in her booster seat. After the new baby arrives, Logan and Lily will move to the 3rd row and the new baby will go behind the passenger seat.

  • Thanks for all the input, ladies! I had DH install it on the passenger side before asking on here. I figured it would be easiest to reach back there if needed and also, like JessicaAlice pointed out, I was worried about lifting the carseat into the middle position.

The only thing that has me questioning it is the limited room between our two cars in the garage and the ability to open the passenger door while holding a car seat and load it in. I purposely park on the left side of the garage so I can see if I'm going to hit my side mirror on the garage door when pulling in/backing out (I have personal experience with this one).

There is definitely more room to get the seat in and out of the car on the left side of the garage than down the middle, between the cars.
