CL WWYD?

I have a couch for sale on craigslist.

One guy contacted me fairly quickly and wanted to come look at it.  I told when he could come, he never not back to me.  I emailed him Sunday night and said it was still available if he was still interested.

Second guy said he'd like to come get it after Thanksgiving and he would contact me early this week to set up a time (he has to rent a uhaul).  Never really heard from him. Yesterday he emailed me saying he was still interested but could only give me a certain price (100 less than asking price.)  I said ok.  He emailed back and said he would get back to me about when he could get a uhaul.

First guy contacted me today and said he could come on Friday.  He will pay full asking price.

Who gets the couch?

The first guy, right?  Not only has he given me a day and time he's picking it up but he's also giving me more money.  I should not feel morally obligated to the 2nd guy, right?

Re: CL WWYD?

  • Craig's List is first come, first serve as far as I'm concerned. Half the time people don't even show up when you have a confirmed time with them. I don't count on a buyer until they are actually at my house.

I'd email the 2nd guy and say someone else has given you a day and time, but you'll let him know if it falls through.

    Exactly!

  • For something of this size, and cost, I've always asked for, and gotten a Paypal deposit - and they'll give it to you if they are truly interested.  Doesn't have to be huge - $50 or so - and I've made it refundable if they didn't like the items - but then they don't flake out and not show up.  I did this with both my PB chairs and my black kitchen chairs and had no problem with the people paying and showing up.
