If you put up a real tree
When do you put it up?
How long does it last?
Any tricks for keeping it fresh longer?
I think I'm going to try to do ours this weekend, if I can put the Halloween decorations away.
But usually do it later. I usually take it down after New Year's.

Re: If you put up a real tree
When do you put it up?
The weekend of Thanksgiving (usually that Friday, but this year it was Saturday)
How long does it last?
Depending on where we get it, it lasts till after Chrismtas. Depending on how the tree is we try to keep it up till January
Any tricks for keeping it fresh longer?
Going to a tree farm and cutting down a fresh one really helps
Trying to find a good stand that has the freshest trees
Check how good / fresh the needles are. If they fall off easily, the tree has been dry for too long
Fresh cut the trunk and get in water ASAP

When do you put it up? The weekend after Thanksgiving, so this coming Saturday.
How long does it last? Until I take it down on New Years Day. I haven't tried it any longer than that.
Any tricks for keeping it fresh longer? If the place you get your tree from cuts off the bottom of your stump, then get home and get it in water within 30 minutes or cut the bottom off yourself at home. It'll drink a lot of water the first day so don't let it get dry or the stump will seal up. A fresh stump that will contine to take in water is the key to longevity
When do you put it up? Usually Thanksgiving weekend.

Any tricks for keeping it fresh longer? I completely agree with the other ladies advice about cutting off the stump to have it be fresh & getting it in water right away. DH also swears by using warm/hot water the first time you fill it.
When do you put it up? Growing up we'd always get it right after thanksgiving; with my husband it's whenever I can get him to agree to do it.
How long does it last? Always has lasted past New Years, but we get lazy with watering after Christmas so dries out quickly then.
Any tricks for keeping it fresh longer? I actually wouldn't put it up right away. We would cut off the stump, as mentioned, and stick in a larger bucket of water for at least a day (normally the pans/holders don't hold a lot of water) to make sure it's gotten what it needs. Definitely check needles for freshness as morrigan mentioned. And yes, cutting your own, while expensive, will help it to last longer. However, if you follow normal precautions the trees at Lowes will last long enough
