Muppets!!

I can't believe I'm the first to start a thread about the new Muppet Movie.

It was about as I expected--and I'm really glad that the different coming attractions didn't totally ruin anything.  Anyone else see it this weekend?

Re: Muppets!!

  • My daughter and son in law went to see it and loved it.  My daughter could not stop talking about it when we saw her yesterday....the Muppets and the Muppet Show were a huge part of her childhood, and she felt like the movie got it right.

I think we may try to go this weekend.

  • Loved it! I was dancing the whole way to our car afterwards.

  • I went with my DH and my sister on Thanksgiving. We all loved it and had Manha Manha stuck in our heads the rest of the night!

  • I went and saw it with my family and my kids loved it. I love that it had some humor along with the singing/dancing. I don't care for musicals but I liked this one!

  • DH, SIL and I went Wednesday night and we absolutely LOVED it. I've had the one song in my head since Wednesday. :-D
    I like privacy. A lot.
  • My husband really wants to go see it!  Glad to hear good reviews about it.
  • I took my 6 y/o nephew to see it.  I loved it!  He got a little bored with all the singing.  I highly recommend it!

  • My EH took DD this past weekend to see it. I was so jealous.  But she told me that she wants to see it again so it looks like I will be going at some point in the next couple of weeks.

  • I went with my nephews over the weekend.  I loved the nostalgic part, but I'm not sure Jason Segel was the best casting.  I'm not sure who would be better, but sometimes it seemed like he felt awkward of would rather not have been there.  Of course kids don't notice or care about that.

  • I love the Muppets and I was pretty pleased with it. Lots of great cameos (I laughed my ass off at the Human Walter reveal) and most of the songs were good (I could've done without "Me Party"). I like the older movies better but overall I thought this one was well worth the ticket price.

Really? He seemed really into it to me. He's actually the one who approached Disney about writing a script for the Muppets since they hadn't made a movie in a decade. I also watched an interview where he admitted that he felt like he was going to start crying at the first read-through where the Kermit puppet and puppeteer showed up. He's a total fan!

Oh, funny.  I didn't research the making of the movie, I just went to see it.  I guess I just didn't think he was that great in the musical numbers then.

I think it'd be one of the high points of my life if I got to meet a "real" Muppet :P

  • I LOVED it. We went thanksgiving night with my parents, husband, dd, sister, her husband and her three kids (from age 11-17). Everyone really enjoyed it. DD keeps telling me the commercials say "come see it again" and she thinks we should go.

  • We loved it!  We went with about 10 of our mid 20's to early 30's friends and I think everyone felt really nostalgic.  I think Jason Segal and Amy Adams were PERFECT casting although I could've had more NPH!

  • :)

So glad to see this thread started! I saw it twice this weekend - once just with my DH and another couple, and then again with my sister and her kids. As my Nestie name might suggest, I'm a huge fan, and the heart and spirit of this movie reminded me of the Muppets I grew up with (especially The Muppet Movie).

There were so many reminders of The Muppet Show (and by association Jim Henson) - every time I heard a line or a song, my heart swelled and I misted up a bit. My sister made fun of me for bringing tissues but sure enough she needed them twice as well.

Like Walter (the new character), I would sometimes get made fun of for loving what seem to be childish things like The Muppets ... but I think there's a humanity to them - love, warmth, humor, hope, and belief that we can make dreams come true - that recognizes those of us with the same values and fans the flame. I love that the movie can touch so many die-hard fans in such deep ways while also being funny and silly and catchy and entertaining to the masses and, more importantly, to a new generation.

    :)

  • We had been wondering how DS would be seeing a movie in a real movie theatre (he turns 3 this week) and this was the perfect first movie for him!  We went at 4:00 on Thanksgiving Day so the theatre was really empty, but he did great.  I think this was a perfect first movie experience for him, although he's more familiar with Sesame Street than the Muppets so he kept asking, "Where's Ernie?"  I just ordered "Muppets From Space" for him from Amazon's Black Friday deals, that's my personal favorite.

  • I also wanted to add that I loved all the picutes of Henson in the movie. Every time I saw one, I teared up a bit. It was a great way of honoring such an amazing man.

  • I LOVED it! I thought it stayed true to what the Muppets are all about, and the references to Henson and the earlier Muppet movies were great!
  • I want to since it reminds me of my childhood.  But DH definitely won't go, and SD is 13 and thinks it's for babies.  Looks like I'm rentin' it.  =)
