Why is it so much harder to name your second kid?

I feel like we "used up" our perfect boy name with Evan.  Both the first and middle names have awesome family significance.  We really nailed it.  This time?  We've got nothing.  Our default middle name will be Daniel for DH but that's all we've got.  There is not a single name that we both agree is "the one."  We have plenty of names we like but nothing that's standing out, no family names, etc.

If Evan has his way this baby will legally be Baby Dorothy Cookie Alfie.

  • I know how you feel!  We always knew E was going to be Elyse, and it got to the point where I thought we'd never find something I liked as much as Elyse.  Just keep looking!  I knew as soon as we saw Isla and I let it roll off the tongue a few times that was it.  Every other name I knew right away wasn't what I wanted.
  • Cute name, I'm sure he won't hate it in the future.  ;)  I think boy names in general are hard, so I see your challenge, we really struggled with boy names.  I'm not sure I could do it all over again!  We both liked very different boy names, but when we came to the common ground, it really was perfect.  You'll get there... it's just hard because it's the second boy name you have to come up with and they are just hard to choose!
  • I know!  We couldn't find a name we agreed on for either kid.

Make a list and wait till you meet him.  We didn't pick Ian's name until hours after he was born (kept going back and forth between Wyatt and Ian).  He just looked more like an Ian than a Wyatt.  You'll know.

With Elsie we had 2 names, but little things kept popping up that made us choose E over the other name.  Like my epi guy's (can't spell what that is) MIL's name was Elsie.  It was a sign.

Ha!  Ian was "Bobo" or "Strawberry Shortcake" or "Frankenstein" per Elsie.  ;-)

  • It was actually easier with our second. Leah was the name I have loved my whole life, but my niece is named Leland and my cousin's little boy is Leo so when I was pg with Kendall I feel like I could use it (I thought it was too similiar).  When I found out Leah was a girl, I was like "F it, I'm naming her whatever I want to name her!"
  • As of now, our 2nd is going to be 2.0 for eternity.

  • Really? I thought the first was terribly hard but now I have a whole hat full of names although I doubt we'll be able use any of them but at least I'm prepared for miracles.
