Gift for daycare teachers

Im new to this whole daycare thing. What is an appropriate gift for them? He has been in d/c since October. He has 1 teacher and a teaching asst. There is also what I guess would be considered night staff?!? One night I picked up and there were 2 different women in the room. I also found out that his teacher is there 3 nights till 7pm.

I thought maybe a gc for the teacher and asst? DH suggested buying dinner for the girls at night?  Do I need to get something for the director? I know I am over thinking this, please help!

Re: Gift for daycare teachers

  • you might consider a small tray of cookies for all the staff in the room that's sharable.

we generally give gifts to the main, regular teachers and a sharable item to the rest, or something smallish - like bags of lindt truffles.

we generally give cash gifts - the amounts have varied greatly depending on the age of our kid, how long they have been in the care of this particular teacher, our interactions with that teacher, the teacher's role in relation to the kid...generally it's been $25-50.

i've also given nice bracelets as gifts - you can get them at boutiquey local stores for around $20-25.

giftcards are nice too - to starbucks or dunkin donuts or the movies.

  • GCs!!  Make a DD one with A's face on it.  It is only 2.99 to make but comes with a holiday greeting card (you'd spend the 2.99 at the store anyway) and add whatever you want to it.  it came in mail within 4 days and my mom is in LOVE!!

  • Chiming in... having worked with kids in an after school setting (K-5), I have to say, I was never a fan of food items to share.  They sit around, get picked at and eventually are thrown away.  Gift cards all the way!

  • I think it depends on your relationship with the teachers as well. I like navy's DD gift card idea with maybe a mug with a class picture or something on it.  Last year I was pretty close with K's main teacher who was my age, so I got her a martini glass (from the $ store) and a DD gc with a note that said "the two things I would need if I taught toddlers all day".  But we had that relationship, she would also have kaylee's art projects say silly things (since they were too little to do themselves) such as "which way to the sand bar" with two jellyfish.
