I took PP's advice and said for the bday party that "I would really like to help out so please tell me what I can bring". Initially she said nothing, but I reiterated that it would mean a lot if I could help so she made a few suggestions.
I kind of feel like a jackass because a few things since then kind of clued me in on how I fit in with the family.
1) On T-day, it was just the four of us for a little while. His mom proposed a toast and said she "was thankful for the delightful new addition to the family".
2) BF has to leave for military duty on Friday and will be gone 2 weeks. His family asked if I wanted to get together with them while he was gone.
3) For his bday party we just hung out at his parents house and watched a football game. I had a HUGE certification test the next day so I brought my laptop to study a bit while they were watching football. The next day BF told me that his mother called him every hour to find out how my test went. When she found out that I passed, she called his sister who proceeded to text me congrat wishes.
4) When I got home from work last night I got a HUGE flower delivery. His mom, dad and sister sent me flowers for passing my cert. test.
yeah.....
Re: Update: dealing with BF's mom
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
They like you! They really like you!
Just over 7 months. I have to say I was shocked that they sent me flowers. That was so incredibly nice.
