This morning was our 5K that we have been training for. I've been a little frustrated because we both really can't run for more than about 4-5 minutes, but we went anyway. We walked most of it and jogged probably about a third of it. We finished the entire trail in 51 minutes. At least we crossed the finish line together (a few seconds apart), and it was a nice feeling to do it together! (and we weren't last LOL)
However, I've decided that I really just don't enjoy running. I've been trying to get to a 5k for almost 5 months and I still can't run the whole thing. So I give up. I hate not being able to do something, but the truth is, I just don't enjoy it. I don't like the way I feel, and I'm not even losing weight. I'm going to do what I enjoy....brisk walking. I would do it again if DH wants to, but exactly like I did it today: jog when I feel like it and walk when I feel like it.
The best part is that it was a BEAUTIFUL day - 60 degs and part sun. We couldn't have asked for a better day at the end of November!!!
Re: So we did our 5k!!!
I totally get that! I have tried to make myself become a runner and my body just DOESN'T want me to. If you don't enjoy it, you'll never stick with it.
Congrats on the finish, though!!!!
Awwww! It is awesome you did it! I tell myself I should get into running, but I am really not sure I am going to like it...
I have done the 5K here in my town for the last three years, and I am yet to run the whole thing. I, also, cannot turn my body into a full time runner. I get HORRIBLE shin splints no matter what I do, so I just am not doing it. Until my recent "situation" (that is what Jeff is calling it, haha!), I really enjoyed sprint intervals. Where you walk for two minutes, run for a minute. Or whatever interval schedule you can get yourself in to. I seriously love it! Plus, I have found I ONLY lose weight doing it that way, because it gives your body that extra jolt of intensity every so often. You might try that out! I really can't run for more that 5 minutes, but I can do my interval sprints at 8+ mph!
Either way, I am SO proud that you got out there and did it! From our first 5K, I have a t-shirt that says: Not Winning > Not Finishing > Not Starting. I like it.

Congrats on finishing, and it's totally okay to walk! Walking is great for you!
Don't force your body to run if you don't like it. I used to be obsessed with running, I would run 10 miles or so on a daily basis, but now I really don't enjoy it so I've found other ways to exercise that I do enjoy. It doesn't matter what you do, it just matters that you do something
