PA - Liquor delivered to our doorstep now!!

For those of you who are not my Facespace friend, I wanted to pass along that we can have liquor delivered/shipped to our homes in PA now! The LCB made the change on the hush-hush but apparently this has been legal since last week.

Happy boozing my PA friends!!

  • I already emailed the wine club we joined in Sonoma to see if they can ship to us now instead of to my parents in NJ. Woohoo!
  • Not totally unrelated, but does anybody remember when you were younger when beer distributors used to deliver cases of beer to the house? Or were my parents the only ones who did this?
  • I think the shipping fee of $14 is a bit ridiculous.

Agree but if you have a special bottle from somewhere that you visited that you cannot get in a store around here, you may want to splurge. I can't see paying $14.00 on the regular per bottle for a shipment but every once in a while for something special, sure. I do know that in the past, you could always order wine or liquor and have it shipped to your local wine and spirits store even if it was here in PA. From there, you could buy it. So it wouldn't be at your doorstep but you could still ask to have it shipped to your local PA booze store.

As long as it's not on top of other shipping fees, I don't think it's that crazy. It's so expensive to ship wine as it is. It really just incentives you to buy in bulk.

  • I wonder if this includes beer, too!

eta: I saw that this is only for wine and liquor that can be purchased at a state store...womp, womp!  So, even those hard-to-find out-of-state wineries and breweries still cannot ship to us.

     Lame!

I love Mount Hope wine and forutnately they're in PA... but there are a ton of vineyards I love from MA that I still can't get here.  :(

Has anyone else heard the rumblings that they might sell of liquor rights to private companies so we're not tethered to state stores anymore?

Yes, this is why I said it was ridiculous because if I understand correctly, this is only to get wine shipped from inside the state.  Am I reading the article wrong?

  • I'm not sure when the PLCB's website was update but it says this:

    http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=611781&mode=2

ETA: I thought you could have always ordered booze in the past and have it shipped to your local booze store. I don't know if this page was updated or not.

  • I <3 you, HW.    This is the best thing I have heard all year.
  • The worst part about this is that the PLCB sucks at life and they are keeping all of this super secret. I cannot find a damn straight answer with any of this. They started this on the hush-hush and nothing is really clearly written out.

It seems you can only get products that are sold in LCB state stores.  So, this program is convenient for people that 1) aren't convenient to an LCB store or a Chairman's Selection store and  2) don't mind paying $14 for S&H.

  • I just called a wine shipper in Napa to ask about this and they said they still can't ship to us.. but legislation might soon change that.  So yeah, this actually is only  items you can get in the actual state stores, so not as exciting as I had hoped.  But this article sounds promising:
