Cookie GTG update (head counts!)

Baking: 19

Non Baking (bringing food, wine etc) 10 (woo-hoo wine!)

unknown: 4

so i am thinking 4-6 dozen cookies for the bakers to bring and share should be ok. we had a ton of cookies last year and no one seemed to leave cookie less!

baging or packaging cookies for the bakers to take home might be a PIA but it makes the cookies line move faster!

Re: Cookie GTG update (head counts!)

  • I'm still so so sad I have to miss this, this year! MrsSstrug, perhaps I'll see you at the Hot Chocolate run! (you'll be easy to spot amount the thousands right??) If not, good luck!
  • I'll be wearing the running stuff (wink)
  • sadly, I had to change my reply to NO, I am really sad I'll miss it this year

  • Oh good, I think my cookie recipe makes 5 dozen.

I'm pretty sure I need to take a half-day off work next Friday to bake cookies. Totally worth it!

  • I haven't decided what I'm making yet -- can we get a tentative list going of what people are bringing so I don't overlap with someone?  Or I'll take requests/suggestions...

I'll bite. I volunteered food (and wine!) as opposed to cookie exchanging and I'm gonna make my specialty - crab and artichoke dip with crackers to dip. It's made of fab (fake crab), artichoke hearts, onion, mayo, cream cheese, and parmesan cheese all baked together. Yum.

we still haven't figured out if we're doing H's birthday party on saturday or sunday, but if we do it sunday i'll try to come with my dozens of cookies. :) or maybe just food to share.

  • This year I am making two types of cookies - apple pie cookies, and chocolate salted caramel cookies....

I think I am taking Friday off!

  • I'm confuzzled (don't worry, this happens easily these days), only 4-6 dozen? I thought we were supposed to make a dozen for each of the other bakers... (or I just made this up, IDK)

I think that was the original intention, but the task of baking 20 dozen cookies is daunting.

If you have 20 exchangers (not including yourself) and you make 7 dozen cookies, then that is a about 4 each.

I do think we need a total of cookies we are expected to bring, so no one ends up short.  But that may be the OCD in me speaking!

As a baker, I never wanted to come home with 12 dozen cookies.  I was always overloaded with sugar taking just 2 or 3 of each variety :)

    Totally agree!

  • even though i sent DH to work with a bunch of cookies (he was very popular last december!) and we ate more than we should have, 2-3 of each cookie was more than enough for us!

I think that's what we did last year - I seem to recall making 6 dozen cookies and bringing home maybe 2-3 of each.  If there are approximately 20 of us baking and we were to bake a dozen cookies per person, we would each bring home 240 cookies, which is definitely more than I could (or should) eat!

  • I think the goal is 3 cookies per person (baker) to take home, but there are always extras for the non-bakers, too.

this was the cookie spread last year. to do one dozen per person is not only a TON of baking but you would go home with more cookies than you can eat. so going for just a few cookies per person makes it easier on the bakers AND eaters.

everyone usually doesn't end up taking every single cookie either based on personal preference.

if you want to bake a ton go for it but i the goal of this is to be a fun GTG, i don't want it to be a huge chore/PIA for people!
